X-Ray Technologist

As a Radiologic (X-Ray) Technologist, you will be required to produce diagnostic radiographic images for medical interpretation through administration of ionizing radiation. The x-ray technologist will independently perform or assist the licensed practitioner in the completion of diagnostic exams.  X-ray technologists prepare, administer and document activities related to contrast administration and radiation exposure in accordance with federal and state laws, regulations, or lawful institutional policy. This position is held accountable for performing the correct radiographic exams and producing high quality diagnostic images, while maintaining proficiency and complying with Akumin’s policies and procedures. This role requires a commitment to patient-centered, compassionate care—creating a positive experience by maintaining clear communication, ensuring comfort, and upholding the highest safety standards throughout the imaging process.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

Administer ionizing radiation to obtain diagnostic exams as ordered by the physician and - consistent with all applicable legal requirements and restrictions- exercise individual thought, judgment and discretion in the performance of the procedure.

Responsible for patient safety, including pre-screening for contra-indications, aseptic injection technique etc. Knowledge and ability to demonstrate competency of differing X-ray equipment.

Train and orient new technologists new Radiologic Technologists.

Maintain levels of quality that meet or exceed customer expectations through process improvement and a team-oriented approach.

Effectively communicates with patients, radiologists and peers. Demonstrates the ability to use all channels of communications to address concerns, solve problems, and address conflict. Maintain confidentiality in matters relating to patients, family and staff in compliance with HIPAA.

Demonstrate proficiency of the company’s EMR systems, as well as PACS and DICOM systems for image sharing and interpretation. Trouble-shoots the x-ray unit and all peripheral equipment (including computers, PACS, etc.). Ensure images are sent timely and proactively address any additional workflow requirements that could delay interpretation impacting turnaround time.

Complete annual and on-going education and site specific competencies/in-services as designated by leadership.

Other duties as assigned by leadership.

Position Requirements:

High School Diploma or equivalent experience required

ARRT (R) and state license, if applicable.

BLS from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) or ACLS, where applicable.

Successful completion of a Radiology School.

Ability to work at several locations.

Strong customer service skills. 

Organizational and multi-tasking skills. 

Basic knowledge of computer applications and programs.

Physical Requirements:

The employee may be exposed to outside weather conditions during transport of patients if working on a mobile unit. The employee will be exposed to a strong magnetic field. May be exposed to blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

More than 50% of the time:

Sit, stand, walk.

Repetitive movement of hands, arms and legs.

See, speak and hear to be able to communicate with patients.

Less than 50% of the time:

Stoop, kneel or crawl.

Climb and balance.

Carry and lift (ability to move non-ambulatory patients from a sitting or lying position for transfer or to exam).
