Job Summary:\rThe Women's Health Patient Educator provides direct patient education to expectant women and their families within the communities Wellstar serves. As such, they assume a variety of roles such as subject matter expert, teacher, patient coach, researcher, and consultant. The Women's Health Patient Educator is responsible for directly leading educational courses offered at a wide variety of patient centered times and locations including day, evening, and weekend options. The Women's Health Patient Educator reports to the Manager of Women's Health and is responsible for the learning and development needs for those they have been designated to support. As a member of the Women's Health Service Line, it is expected that the individual upholds and supports Wellstar in achieving its mission and goals, fosters communication and collaborative practice between disciplines and serves as a positive role model to promote professional practice. This work is done in partnership with system and facility resources to ensure alignment and sustainability. The scope of the responsibility for the position includes both system and community activities.\rCore Responsibilities and Essential Functions:\rLeader of Learning\rInform design, development, implementation, evaluation of learning and educational activities or programs for the Womens Health Service Line.\rCollaborates within the Womens Health Service Line to ensure learning activities are equitable and inclusive for all registrants when appropriate.\rDevelop and deliver educational programming that addresses the identified learning needs for program participants, utilization of in-person and online platforms, and delivery of evidence-based education.\rInstruction of women and their families at multiple Wellstar locations including birthing hospitals and health parks.\rProvide relationship-based patient centered care that is consistent with population specific characteristics (e.g., age, gender, etc.) in a manner that adapts service delivery to reflect an understanding of cultural diversity.\rEvidence Based Practice and Research\rUtilizes evidence to guide the development and provision of womens education programs with regards to content, methods, and evaluation.\rPartners with subject matter experts, to ensure educational initiatives support current policies and expected practices based on evidence.\rUtilizes local and system quality data to drive educational programs.\rParticipates in data collection, poses relevant clinical questions to advanced evidence-based practice. Consults appropriate experts and uses appropriate resources and evidence to address practice questions.\rResources and Support\rProactively plans for the care of patients across the care continuum through patient education.\rUpholds all health care system/organizational policies and procedures and clinical competencies put forth by this job description including regulatory and accreditation requirements and standards ensuring by way of example, such goals as TJC Patient Safety Goals and WellStar Health Systems safety absolutes.\rEnsure the maintenance of relevant competencies as the subject matter expert and as a professional educator, to maintain credibility and relevance to the work.\rProvide follow-up with patients and their families/support systems regarding satisfaction and implement a plan in collaboration with leader for timely and appropriate resolution of concerns.\rOngoing communication with department coordinators to determine site classroom needs and necessary supplies in relation to Womens Health Education programs.\rProfessional Development\rFosters a culture of lifelong learning and personal development.\rPartners with internal and external resources (e.g., OL, Career Development, professional organizations) to ensure participants are aware of and how to access relevant resources that support womens health.\rMaintains all certifications and licenses to meet learning goals in the system.\rCompletes all initial and ongoing professional competency assessment, required mandatory education, and population specific education.\rServes as a preceptor and/or or mentor for onboarding new team members to ensure that there is a current and future qualified workforce.\rPerforms other duties as assigned\rComplies with all WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.\rRequired Minimum Education:Bachelors Nursing or Bachelors Public Health or Bachelors Social Work or Masters Nursing or Accredited Program Public Health or Accredited Program Social Work\r\rRequired Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):\rAll certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.BLS - Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor\rAdditional License(s) and Certification(s):\rRN - Reg Nurse (Single State) - required only if candidate is an RN Upon Hire Required or\rRN-COMPACT - RN - Multi-state Compact - required only if candidate is an RN Upon Hire Required or\rRequired Minimum Experience:\rMinimum 2 years or more years of professional experience within a health or behavioral health system Required and\rExperience working with persons and populations with diverse backgrounds; proficiency in health education and health promotion theory and practice; high-quality written and oral interpersonal communication skills; competence in public speaking and presenting. Required\rRequired Minimum Skills:\rAbility to read, write and speak the English language, optimize the use of technology to support learning and holds basic computer skills;\rStrong interpersonal, collaborative skills along with customer service skills required;\rAbility to function in an autonomous manner.\rPossess excellent time management skills;\rpossess a strong understanding of adult learning theories and can utilize multi-methods to implement education.
