Overview:

Top European Bank (the “Bank”) with significant New York operations is looking for a Corporate Credit Underwriter.  The primary objective of this position is to drive material and visible improvement in Credit Risk Management’s (CRM) ability to effectively risk underwrite middle market transactions and manage an existing client portfolio, consistent with industry best practices.

Analyst is expected to learn and contribute internal execution and risk management process within CRM group. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, managing one or several industry verticals whose main purposes is transaction credit underwriting and execution, working with senior members of the CRM group on deal documentation and deal closing, and ongoing credit monitoring and portfolio management.

Responsibilities:

Assist in underwriting large-cap credit proposals across multiple sectors, working closely with senior underwriters to evaluate new transactions, refinancings, and various credit structures.Engage in rotational assignments across the Corporate Underwriting verticals to build sector-specific expertise and enhance underwriting breadth.Participate in ad hoc credit risk projects such as portfolio analytics, sector deep dives, process enhancements, regulatory initiatives, and model or policy updates.Develop strong working relationships with internal partners across risk, coverage, operations, legal, and product groups.Conduct detailed financial due diligence, including historical performance analysis, forward-looking financial modeling, stress testing, cash-flow forecasting, and industry and competitive landscape assessments.Review and interpret key transaction documents such as term sheets, credit agreements, security agreements, and ancillary documentation to identify material risks and structural considerations.Support coordination with Credit Risk Officers, Relationship Managers, and Product Specialists to align transaction terms with internal risk appetite and ensure global credit limits are appropriately calibrated.Contribute to the preparation and refinement of credit applications in accordance with internal risk policies, procedures, and regulatory expectations.Assist in processing transaction-related requests, including amendments, covenant waivers, compliance certifications, and restructuring analyses.Support ongoing credit monitoring responsibilities, including annual and interim reviews, early warning analyses, risk rating assessments, and exposure reporting.

Qualifications:

Up to 1 to 2 years of experience in corporate credit underwriting, credit risk analysis, or related areas within a corporate banking or financial services environment; strong internship experience will be considered.Solid analytical and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to evaluate company performance, capital structure, cash-flow durability, and transaction risks.Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft credit memoranda and articulate credit views to senior stakeholders.Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple tasks with attention to detail and sound judgment.Demonstrated ability to develop internal networks and interact effectively with senior underwriters and cross-functional teams.Understanding of corporate banking compliance requirements and US lending regulations.Working knowledge of credit products, underwriting frameworks, and corporate lending processes, with comfort navigating complex deal structures.Familiarity with legal and transactional documentation, including term sheets and credit agreements.Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.MBA is beneficial but not required.Certifications such as GARP SCR or CFA ESG Investing are a positive differentiator but not mandatory.

With respect to this position in our New York Office, the expected base salary ranges from $85,000 to $95,000. It is not typical for offers to be made at or near the top of the range. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.
