Job Title: Welding & Assembly Automation EngineerJob Description The Welding & Assembly Automation Engineer will lead the design, development, and optimization of automated welding and assembly systems across industries including aerospace, tracked vehicles, automotive, and construction. This role is hands-on, highly technical, and involves collaborating with mechanical, controls, and electrical engineering teams to deliver automated manufacturing solutions that improve safety, quality, cycle time, and throughput. Responsibilities + Design and implement robotic welding cells, assembly automation, and integrated controls systems. + Support commissioning, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement efforts. + Collaborate with engineering teams to improve automated manufacturing solutions. + Enhance safety, quality, cycle time, and throughput in manufacturing processes. Essential Skills + 5+ years in welding automation, robotics, or industrial automation. + Expertise in welding processes including GMAW, GTAW, SMAW, FCAW, SAW, RSW, FSW, and laser hybrid. + Experience programming and integrating robotics such as Fanuc, ABB, and Yaskawa/Motoman. + PLC programming experience with Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Siemens. + Ability to develop and qualify WPS/WPQR to AWS/ASME standards. + Strong troubleshooting skills for automated welding and assembly systems. + Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and technical specs. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field (preferred). + U.S. Citizenship required; must be eligible for a U.S. Government security clearance. + Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills. + Detail-oriented with a high commitment to quality and safety. + Proficiency in Microsoft Office and technical documentation tools. + Certified Welding Engineer (CWEng) is a plus. + Experience with CAD and automation simulation software. + Lean/Six Sigma process improvement background. + Experience across aerospace, automotive, tracked vehicles, construction equipment. + HMI development experience. + Prior government/DoD project exposure. Work Environment Office-based engineering environment with frequent time on manufacturing floors, construction sites, or testing labs. Collaboration with cross-functional teams including mechanical, electrical, controls, design, and quality. Travel required based on project and customer needs. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Auburn Hills, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $65.00/hr.
