**Job Title: Welder**
**Job Description**
As a welder, you will be responsible for striking an arc to generate heat for melting and depositing metal from the electrode to the workpiece, effectively joining edges of workpieces. You will manually guide the electrode or gun along the weld line, maintaining the length of the arc and speed of movement to achieve the specified depth of fusion and bead. Welding will be performed in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions, while examining welds for bead size and other specifications.
**Responsibilities**
+ Strike arc to generate heat and melt metal from electrode to workpiece
+ Guide electrode or gun along weld line to form specified depth of fusion and bead
+ Weld in various positions: flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead
+ Examine weld for bead size and specifications
+ Apply filler rod manually to supply weld metal
+ Clean or degrease weld joint or workpiece
+ Repair broken or cracked parts and fill holes
+ Prepare broken parts for welding by grooving or scarfing surfaces
+ Chip off excess weld, slag, and spatter
+ Preheat workpiece with hand torch or heating furnace
+ Position and clamp workpieces together or assemble them in jig or fixture
+ Tack assemblies together
**Essential Skills**
+ Experience with MIG welding (1+ years manually welding)
+ Ability to read and interpret blueprints
+ Basic understanding of welding fundamentals
+ Experience with stainless, mild, or carbon steel
+ Positive attendance history
+ Assembly and structural welding experience
+ Proficient in using measuring tools
**Additional Skills & Qualifications**
+ Experience working in a manufacturing environment
+ Eagerness to learn and grow
+ Experience with hand and power tools
+ Comfortable working in non-temperature controlled environment
+ Willingness to work overtime
+ Available for 1st shift work

**Work Environment**
Work in a non-temperature controlled environment which can get very hot during the summer. The facility is medium-sized and relatively clean.
**Job Type & Location**
This is a Contract position based out of Altamont, Illinois.
**Pay and Benefits**
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.00/hr.
