Water Resources Intern - Water (Summer 2026)

Your Opportunity Our Sacramento, California office of Stantec is seeking a Water Resources Intern to join our multi-disciplinary team of water resources professionals, each committed to delivering sound and strategic consulting services to a range of local, regional, state, and federal clients. Your Key Responsibilities - Participate in multi-disciplinary teams on water resources planning projects throughout California and the western U.S. - Gain and apply experience in California water resources including surface water, groundwater, and recycled water supplies; river systems; water-related infrastructure; applicable laws/policies/regulations/guidelines; and understanding of operations of major water systems. - Coordinate with project managers, project engineers and staff, clients, regulatory agencies, and contractors. - Assist technical staff with various project tasks, including researching, compiling, and evaluating project data, preparing reports, and performing calculations. - Perform project administration including preparation of reports, gathering of information, writing proposals and correspondence, and completing progress reports. - Perform other duties as assigned. Your Capabilities and Credentials - Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) - Excellent written and oral communication skills - Ability to work in diverse team environments, interacting with staff, clients, and stakeholders - Willingness to perform field work as needed Education and Experience - In progress toward earning a Bachelor's degree (minimum) or Master’s degree in civil/environmental engineering, hydrology, or related field, and a minimum of 2 years of related undergraduate coursework. - Specific coursework or exposure to one or more of the following: - Engineering feasibility analyses and design - Hydrology and hydraulics - Water resources planning and design - Civil engineering design of water and wastewater infrastructure Typical office environment working with computers and working at a desk for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
