This position is responsible for administering and directing the daily operations and institutional programs of the Wyoming State Penitentiary, a maximum-security correctional facility. The Warden ensures that all operations and programs are conducted in compliance with applicable state and federal statutes, departmental policies and procedures, and recognized correctional standards and best practices. This role includes direct supervisory responsibility over institutional staff and incarcerated individuals across varying custody levels. The Warden is also responsible for development and oversight of the biennial budget and for fostering a safe, professional, and positive work environment for staff. Ensure short- and long-term goals and objectives are developed and implemented. Ensure successful accreditation and re-accreditation from regulatory agencies. + Develop strategic planning objectives, measures, and outcomes; and work collaboratively with others to solve complex and multifaceted issues and build a continuum of outcome-based programs emphasizing pro-social changes. + Ensure sound security management of the institution and compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, as well as department directives, mission, and goals. Ensures compliance with regulatory and national accrediting organizations such as the ACE, SHARPS, Fire Marshall, etc. + Develop a positive prison culture to enhance mutual respect between staff and inmates. Reduction in inmate misconduct and grievances. Promote the facility and provide leadership for meeting WDOC goals. + Maintains a safe and secure facility. Will provide a safe and secure facility to provide inmates the opportunity through treatment programs available to make positive changes in their behavior. Provides a climate of mutual respect between staff and inmates. + Direct and coordinate institution personnel in providing daily living services, work, training, and self-improvement opportunities for inmates. Manage the workforce within the facility to include hiring, discipline, termination, evaluation, and training of all staff. + Develops and administers standard operational policies and procedures governing program operations. Update operational procedures annually. Review policies annually and request review/changes when conflicts within and among policies arise. + Monitor and direct fiscal control actions related to budgets. Complete all goals and objectives established and stay within budget. + Monitor and review inmate due process activities and the grievance process. Ensure a fair and impartial inmate disciplinary process. Maintain an inmate grievance process that promotes fairness. + Interpersonal interactions with the local community through PCPC, local boards, staff, and inmates. + Monitor and review all public information requests and ensure all responses are within the time frames required by statute. Review and respond to interrogatories and affidavits. Implement court decisions. Comply with state statutes and court orders. + Review and inspect institutional operations and physical plant. Ensure compliance with all audits and inspections. Qualifications PREFERENCES: Preference will be given to those with a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or a related field and Eight (8) years of progressive work experience in a correctional or detention facility, including three (3) years of management experience in a correctional or detention facility at the level of a warden, deputy warden, associate warden, superintendent or deputy superintendent.
