Join us as we digitally connect the world and shape the future. **The Role** Lumen is seeking a senior AI leader to drive company-wide AI strategy, execution, and value realization. AI is central to Lumen’s transformation, and this role will be accountable for how AI is defined, prioritized, and scaled across the company, spanning customer-facing products and services and internal transformation. This is a both a highly strategic and execution-oriented leadership role, designed to unlock measurable business value aligned with our North Star, driving clarity and execution of the AI vision for our future. Success depends on strong cross-functional collaboration and leadership, radical prioritization, disciplined governance, and the ability to mobilize resources across technology, product, data, and other functions. This leader will work in close partnership with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), the HRLT, the Lumen Transformation Office (LTO) and with leaders and teams across all Business Units and Functions to shape and deliver Lumen’s transformation through AI excellence. **The Main Responsibilities** 1. **Define and Lead Company AI Strategy** + Own and articulate Lumen’s company AI vision, aligned to Lumen’s company vision, mission, strategy and transformation priorities. + Define and maintain a clear AI roadmap, balancing near-term impact with long-term capability building. + Set company AI priorities to ensure focus on initiatives with the highest strategic and economic value. + Serve as a trusted advisor to executive and senior leaders on AI direction and investment decisions. 1. **Drive Customer-Facing AI Innovation** + Partner with Product, Engineering, and other leaders to identify and scale AI-powered customer experiences, services, and offerings. + Ensure AI is thoughtfully embedded into Lumen’s product and service portfolio to drive differentiation, growth, and customer value. + Ensure customer-facing AI solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with enterprise strategy. 1. **AI Execution Accountability** + Be ultimately accountable for execution and outcomes of company AI initiatives, regardless of reporting lines. + Establish clear pathways to execution, including dependencies, sequencing, and required capabilities. + Secure commitment of resources and prioritization from functional, technology, and product leaders. + Identify and resolve execution risks, bottlenecks, and misalignment. 1. **AI Governance** + Define and oversee program-level governance for AI initiatives: + What AI work is happening + Where it is happening + How it aligns to strategy + How it is approved and tracked + Partner with IT, Security, Legal, and Risk on broader AI and technical governance and compliance. + Ensure disciplined decision-making without slowing innovation. 1. **Technology, Data & Engineering Partnership** + Establish strong dotted-line alignment with data science, machine learning, engineering, and platform teams. + Influence technical priorities to ensure alignment with AI strategy and roadmap. + Ensure AI solutions are scalable, integrated, and not siloed. + Translate strategy into clear requirements and outcomes for technical teams. 1. **Vendor, Platform & Partner Strategy** + Own the selection, integration, and rationalization of AI vendors, platforms, and tools. + Lead decisions on external AI consultants and partners, ensuring fit-for-purpose selection. + Ensure the AI ecosystem works together as an integrated capability. 1. **Workforce, Ways of Working & Culture Enablement** + Enable AI-ready ways of working + Shape workforce transformation tied to AI + Set expectations for AI adoption and usage + Ensure internal enablement tracks with AI ambitions 1. **Company Value Realization** + Own company AI value realization - from productivity and cost efficiencies to growth and innovation. + Define success metrics and ensure AI investments deliver measurable impact. + Over time, expand accountability into AI-enabled products and offerings, as maturity increases. **What We Look For in a Candidate** • PhD required in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Information Technology or related field. • 15+ years proven experience leading large scale transformation through advanced technologies. • Track record of delivering measurable business impact through AI, including growth, productivity, cost efficiency, or customer value. • Deep understanding of modern AI capabilities and limitations, with the ability to translate technical concepts into clear business priorities and decisions. • Strong executive presence with the ability to influence, align, and mobilize senior leaders and cross-functional teams. • Strategic orientation with the ability to successfully drive execution across complex organizations. • Deep credibility with technology, product, and business leaders. • Experience operating effectively in matrixed, resource-constrained environments. • Ability to balance innovation with discipline and accountability. **Compensation** This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors. Location Based Pay Ranges $238,076 - $317,434 in all states.
