Bowhead seeks an experienced and highly motivated Virtualization Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support operations at the Wideband SATCOM Operations Centers (WSOC). As a key member of our technical team, you will leverage your extensive knowledge and experience in virtualization technologies to maintain, optimize, and troubleshoot complex SATCOM systems critical to national defense operations.
This role requires a dedicated professional with 10+ years of IT experience, an active Top Secret/SCI clearance, and a valid Security+ certification. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise in designing, implementing, and managing virtualized environments, as well as knowledge of Wideband SATCOM operational requirements.
• Virtualization Management:
o Design, deploy, configure, and optimize virtualized environments in support of WSOC operations.
o Manage and maintain virtualized infrastructure, including VMware, Hyper-V, or equivalent platforms.
o Monitor performance, capacity, and health of the virtual infrastructure to ensure uninterrupted SATCOM support.
• Support SATCOM Operations:
o Provide expert-level technical support for Wideband SATCOM Operations Centers, ensuring mission-critical virtualized systems are operational 24/7.
o Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate virtualization solutions into SATCOM hardware/software architectures.
o Identify and troubleshoot issues, implementing timely resolutions to minimize operational disruptions.
• System Security and Compliance:
o Implement and maintain cybersecurity best practices and satisfy security requirements for classified systems.
o Ensure the virtual environment meets DoD STIG (Security Technical Implementation Guide) compliance standards.
o Apply patches, updates, and upgrades to the virtual infrastructure as directed.
• Architecture and Upgrades:
o Evaluate current virtualization architectures and recommend improvements to optimize performance, scalability, and security.
o Assist in planning and executing system upgrades, migrations, and technology refreshes to sustain SATCOM operations.
• Documentation and Training:
o Create and maintain detailed system documentation, including architecture diagrams, troubleshooting guides, and operational procedures.
o Provide training and knowledge transfer to WSOC operators and junior IT staff.

Qualifications• Experience:
o 10+ years of experience in IT systems administration, virtualization, or related fields, with a focus on virtualized environments.
o Significant, hands-on expertise with VMware, Hyper-V, or other enterprise virtualization platforms.
o Solid understanding of Wideband SATCOM systems, their operational requirements, and supporting technologies.
• Certification:
o Must hold at minimum a Security+ (CompTIA) certification or higher (e.g., CISSP, CASP+).
• Technical Skills:
o Proficient in managing virtualized IT environments in classified networks.
o Familiarity with DoD STIG compliance and security best practices.
o Strong knowledge of network infrastructure, storage solutions, and backup/recovery methods for virtual systems.
o Experience with troubleshooting complex systems and working under pressure in mission-critical environments.
• Communication & Leadership:
o Ability to collaborate with diverse teams, including engineers, analysts, and operations staff.
o Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to relay complex ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must currently hold a Top Secret security clearance with SCI access.

• Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
• Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically
