GDIT is looking for a VDI Systems Engineer to support the USPS Endpoint Systems/Platform Configuration team to provide VDI Systems Engineering Support. As a VDI Systems Engineer, your primary responsibility is to provide the Endpoint Technology Engineering Platform Configuration team with support of their virtual digital workstations for the organization. This team supports over 15,000 users, two domains, persistent and non-persistent machines, plus rolling out thin client devices.
HOW A VDI SYSTEMS ENGINEER WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:
Operational support of all Windows system administration within the EUC space including Windows Server and Windows Desktop Operating systems.Deploy and maintain secure desktop images in the Omnissa / VMWare virtual desktop Infrastructure in accordance with policies and industry standardsCentrally store, manage, and maintain user preferences and dataManage and maintain Omnissa / VMWare AppVolumes managers, databases, App Stacks and writable volumesWork independently with minimal supervision or as part of a teamMay be required to create time sensitive deliverablesMay lead project teams within assigned unit develop, plan and manage project tasksParticipate in the preparation of materials and oral presentations for customers and managementRespond promptly to incidents in ServiceNowWill be assigned responsibility for advanced technical issues in the environment for problem resolutionDiagnose and repair system problems working closely with vendor support for all servers, software and other hardware directly or with the team membersDefine, monitor, optimize, and troubleshoot system performance of all EUC systemsAbility to develop and maintain IT documentation.Independently analyzes and develops innovative resolutions for complex problems involving availability and/or performance at the component level. Develop plans, and manages project tasks.Provides training for less experienced team members of the IS department.WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:
Required Experience:
8+ years of hands-on experienceCertifications:
Omnissa / VMware Certifications (VCP) - preferred but not requiredNutanix (NCP), or similar server virtualization certs – preferred but not requiredEducation:
A degree from an accredited College/University in the applicable field of services is preferred. NOTE: Four (4) years’ additional relevant experience in lieu of a degreeRequired skills:
MUST have direct experience installing, configuring, and managing Omnissa / VMWare software products including but not limited to Horizon View, App Volumes, User Environment Manager, Workspace ONE, ThinApp, and vRealize Operations for HorizonBasic understanding of data center networking (TCP/IP, switching/routing, ports and protocols, firewall concepts, load-balancing)Strong, demonstrable scripting experience in one or more of the following: PowerShell, VBScript, C++, Unix Shell, Python, Perl, Ruby, JavaScript, etc.Basic understanding of storage protocols (e.g. NFS, SMB, S3, FC, iSCSI, NVMe)Good knowledge of Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, Group Policy.Knowledge of MS Windows desktop operating systems including Windows 10 and MS Server 2012 & 2012 R2.Experience with hardening and improving the security of Windows operating systems and hardware platforms, local area networks, wide area networks, messaging, and client-server applications.Preferred Skills:
A current Omnissa / VMWare Certification (preferably a VCP6-DTM or VCP7-DTM or VCAP6-DTM or VCAP7-DTM)Strong background in Desktop Virtualization: Omnissa / VMWare vSphere, Omnissa / VMWare Horizon, Citrix; Microsoft RDSDell Wyse Configuration Manager experience and knowledgeExperience working in a large enterprise environmentKnowledge of storage area networks to include network operating systems, SAN protocols, SAN management, and SAN physical configuration.Knowledge of MSI and Windows Installer technologies for creating ThinApps and App StacksKnowledge of cloud-based virtualization offerings and managementKnowledge and experience in migrating from on-prem virtualization platforms to cloud based offeringsLocation:
