Vice President, Business Operations

Here, your voice and ideas matter, your work makes an impact, and together, you will help us define the future of American Express. **How will you make an impact in this role?** Global Merchant & Network Services (GMNS) powers the American Express global payments network, enabling more than $1.7 trillion in annual spend across 170 markets. The GMNS Product Team is responsible for driving products, capabilities, and partnerships that enable merchants, acquirers, ISVs, and payment facilitators to connect to the American Express Network with speed, scale, and reliability. This newly created Vice President (VP) position will report to the Executive Vice President, Acquirer Product and Deputy Head of GMNS Product. The VP will play a pivotal role in ensuring GMNS Product has the right risk and control strategy, driving key transformational initiatives and uplifting the GMNS Product Operations activities. Along with their team, the successful candidate will ensure GMNS Product has robust processes, procedures and controls in place. They will lead the design and implementation of initiatives to ensure the business is managed in accordance with risk appetite, as well as mitigate new risks as they arise, in accordance with the company’s risk framework and policy. The leader of this team will ensure GMNS Product is effectively positioned to identify, remediate and reduce risk, serving as a key liaison and partnering with market Business Operations teams, GMNS Operations teams, Project Guardian PMO, Control Management, GCO and Compliance teams (among others). **Key responsibilities include:** * Monitor, track, resolve and close Operational Risk Events (OREs), including aged OREs/Past Due Findings, by identifying roadblocks (across operations, technology, etc.) and driving to closure * Define and design operational readiness framework to enhance the GMNS Product Delivery Quality and integrate it into the overall Product Delivery Framework * Management of mandate prioritization to drive alignment and appropriate handoff to the product/tech teams * Partner with Technology to define simpler decision framework for ownership and action planning for incidents, issues and risk management. * Coordinate and manage audit interaction for GMNS Product audits and follow up on audit responses * Support control/risk skill development and awareness across GMNS Product by defining and delivering risk skills development training and change programs. * Lead and chair monthly GMNS Product Risk Committee Meetings to review and act upon risk metrics and reports * Ensure alignment across teams/functions, including anticipating and resolving 1LOD and 2LOD alignment, Enterprise and Legal Entity alignment * Participate in Control Management Governance working group and Guardian workstreams/PMO to appropriately represent GMNS Product, managing feedback, taking ownership where appropriately and escalating as needed * Champion new processes related to management policies by setting up intake tools, owning review/approval process, communicating best practices and storing required documents **Skills/Qualifications:** * Experience leading cross-functional or broad stakeholder teams, driving towards goals in time-sensitive and rapidly changing situations * Decisive self-starter with high degree of accountability and experience operating in ambiguity * Process mindset, with the ability to develop robust processes that meet global and local needs * Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills to lead, influence and drive consensus among senior leaders from a variety of business groups * Proven experience building and leading diverse, highly engaged, high-performing teams, as well as driving change through the organization * Ability to manage multiple complex items simultaneously * Creative thinker who is passionate about relationship building with an enterprise mindset * Experience working with Product, Technology, Control Management, GCO, Compliance, Risk and/or Internal Audit **Qualifications** Salary Range: $176,750.00 to $282,000.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits The above represents the expected salary range for this job requisition.
