Job Description:

MEANINGFUL WORK AND PERSONAL IMPACT
As a VDI & Imaging Engineer, the work you’ll do at GDIT will be impactful to the mission of USCENTCOM. You will play a crucial role in designing, building, and sustaining Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) images that support enterprise operations, mission critical activities, and readiness events. This role provides engineering leadership across virtualized desktop environments—encompassing image creation, application integration, operating system optimization, and secure configuration management—to ensure reliable, secure, and scalable virtual desktop services throughout all operational phases.

The engineer will architect VDI image solutions, coordinate integration and deployment activities, support formal testing and validation cycles, and ensure interoperability across joint, coalition, and mission partner environments. Success in this position requires deep technical expertise in VDI technologies, strong collaboration and coordination skills, and the ability to operate effectively in fast paced, mission driven environments.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Image Creation & Lifecycle Management

Develop, configure, and maintain standardized “golden images” for VDI deployments, including operating systems, core applications, and security components.

Optimize images for performance, security, and compliance with organizational standards.

Manage the full lifecycle of VDI images, including versioning, testing, validation, and production rollout.

Application Packaging & Delivery

Package, virtualize, and integrate applications for delivery within the VDI environment.

Conduct compatibility and performance testing to ensure reliable application behavior across VDI platforms.

Patching & System Updates

Establish and maintain structured processes for applying security patches, OS updates, and software revisions to VDI images.

Collaborate with security and application teams to ensure timely deployment of updates.

Automation & Performance Optimization

Automate image creation, deployment, and maintenance workflows using scripting tools such as PowerShell.

Monitor VDI performance and implement improvements to enhance system efficiency and user experience.

Troubleshooting & Technical Support

Serve as an escalation point for complex VDI-related issues, including performance degradation, application failures, and connectivity challenges.

Diagnose and resolve advanced technical problems related to VDI images, virtual desktops, and supporting infrastructure.

Documentation & Knowledge Management

Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation covering VDI image configurations, processes, standards, and operational procedures.

Ensure documentation remains current to support operational continuity and knowledge transfer.
