Join JPMorgan Chase's Salt Design System team, where you'll be at the forefront of our digital transformation. We're looking for a UX Engineer with knowledge in accessibility to work on inclusive components and interaction patterns within our React-based design system.
As a UX Accessibility Engineer, you'll learn to solve accessibility challenges at the component level while creating and reusable solutions that help thousands of engineers build accessible applications.
You’ll work closely with the Salt Design System team, to ensure components are compliant with accessibility standards and support inclusive design practices. Working alongside design and engineering teams, you’ll help translate accessibility requirements into technical solutions and contribute to the accessibility testing and documentation. Job Responsibilities:
• Contribute to accessible React components and interaction patterns for the Salt design system, working on components like buttons, forms, and navigation elements
• Document accessibility issues and provide clear recommendations for remediation
• Collaborate with designers and engineers to understand accessibility requirements and learn best practices for inclusive design
• Contribute to the open-source Salt repository through GitHub pull requests with team review and mentorship
• Support efforts to ensure Salt components meet WCAG 2.2 AA standards while maintaining good performance and usability
• Learn and apply automated accessibility testing practices within the component development workflow
• Help create documentation and examples showing how to use Salt components accessibly
• Research accessibility patterns and contribute ideas for improving component inclusivity
• Participate in accessibility advocacy and education efforts within the development community
• Participate in planning and stand-up meetings, collaborating with cross-functional teams to address accessibility concerns.
• Assist with application team support when accessibility questions arise about Salt component usage
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:
• Strong foundation in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
• Basic understanding of web accessibility principles (WCAG 2.2) and interest in learning more about building inclusive user interfaces
• Hands-on experience with Assistive Technology (e.g., screen readers, magnifiers, alternative input)
• Experience with or willingness to learn GitHub workflows including pull requests and collaborative development
• Strong learning mindset with ability to research and apply new accessibility techniques
• Good communication skills and enthusiasm for working collaboratively with designers and other engineers
• Problem-solving attitude and interest in creating inclusive solutions for users with diverse needs
• High degree of initiative and autonomy, with the ability to function as part of a team
• Innovative thinker with excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:
• Knowledge of international laws is a plus.
• Certification in accessibility (e.g., IAAP Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies) is a plus.
