Job Title: Utility Locator

Location: Cohoes, NY

Pay: $25-$30/hour, regular Prevailing Rate jobs

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:30 AM – 4:00 PM (Frequent overtime and occasional Saturdays)

Job Summary:

We are hiring an experienced Utility Locator to identify and mark underground utilities before excavation or construction work begins. This role is critical to job site safety and requires the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

Locate and mark underground utilities (gas, water, sewer, electric, telecom)Read and interpret utility maps, blueprints, and site plansUse electromagnetic locators, GPS devices, and other detection toolsMaintain accurate records and documentation of all locate activitiesCommunicate with contractors, utility companies, and project managersReport discrepancies or hazards to supervisorsFollow all safety protocols and company procedures

Qualifications:

2+ years of experience in utility locatingProficient in reading maps, blueprints, and using locating equipmentOSHA 10 certification requiredValid driver’s license with a clean driving recordHigh school diploma or equivalentStrong attention to detail and problem-solving skillsComfortable working independently in the field

Work Environment:

Outdoor work in all weather conditions (rain, snow, heat, cold)Crew sizes range from 1 to 10, reporting to a foreman or superintendentOvertime varies by project (2–20 hours/week)

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.
