Staff Software Engineer – Unified Payments Platform
As a Staff Software Engineer, you will be a key technical leader driving innovation, architecture, and execution across complex, large-scale systems. You’ll not only write code and design systems but also mentor engineers, influence cross-functional teams, and shape the future of Walmart’s Unified Payments Platform. You’ll bring deep technical expertise, a passion for scalable systems, and a forward-thinking mindset—especially in the areas of AI, LLMs, and agentic architectures.
What You’ll Do:
Lead technical strategy and architecture for critical components of the Unified Payments Platform, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.Mentor and guide multiple engineering teams through design reviews, code quality, and best practices.Drive AI integration by identifying opportunities to leverage Large Language Models (LLMs) and agentic systems to enhance developer productivity, system intelligence, and automation.Collaborate cross-functionally with product, UX, and business stakeholders to align technical solutions with business goals.Champion engineering excellence through hands-on development, code reviews, and continuous improvement of development processes.Lead incident response and root cause analysis for complex production issues, ensuring long-term stability and resilience.Influence platform evolution by evaluating emerging technologies and contributing to Walmart’s technical roadmap.About the Team:
The Unified Payments team is building a cloud-native, scalable, and secure platform to handle all payment processing across Walmart’s global ecosystem—from in-store to e-commerce.This platform is central to Walmart’s digital transformation and will support billions of transactions annually.About You:
You are a technical expert with a strong foundation in distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, and modern DevOps practices.You have hands-on experience with LLMs (e.g., OpenAI, Gemini) and understand how to integrate them into enterprise systems.You are familiar with agentic workflows and how autonomous agents can be orchestrated to perform complex tasks.You thrive in a leadership role, mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction across teams.You are passionate about building resilient, high-performance systems and continuously improving them.Key Qualifications:
10+ years of experience in software engineering with a strong focus on backend systems and cloud platforms.Deep expertise in Java, Spring Boot, and microservices architecture.Strong knowledge of Kubernetes, Helm, and cloud platforms (GCP preferred).Experience with AI/ML integration, particularly with LLMs, vector databases, and prompt engineering.Understanding of agentic systems and orchestration frameworks (e.g., LangChain, AutoGen, CrewAI).Proficiency in DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and performance tuning.Strong communication and leadership skills with a track record of mentoring and influencing.Bonus Points:

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00-$220,000.00
Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
