We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to help modernize and scale Walmart’s Point-of-Sale (POS) systems. This role combines hands-on development, technical leadership, and problem-solving at scale. You’ll lead small engineering teams, design and deliver production-grade software, and partner across business and technology groups to ensure our POS platforms remain reliable, resilient, and ready for the future.
What You’ll DoLead and Mentor: Guide the work of 4–6 engineers (including offshore associates). Provide technical direction, design/code reviews, and mentorship to elevate the team’s output.Deliver Solutions: Translate business requirements into scalable technical designs. Develop, test, and deliver features with attention to performance and maintainability.Troubleshoot and Optimize: Investigate production issues, conduct root-cause analysis, and implement fixes to minimize downtime and prevent recurrence.Drive Projects: Lead discovery, design, and delivery phases of medium to large engineering projects. Balance short-term fixes with long-term solutions.Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with product, program, and operations teams to ensure on-time delivery and smooth hand-offs.Ensure Quality: Write and review code in Java, Python, and other relevant languages. Conduct unit testing, document designs, and maintain standards for code quality.Innovate in POS: Modernize legacy POS systems (Java) by integrating with microservices, REST APIs, and cloud-native architectures.What You’ll BringEducation & Experience:Master’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or related field + 2 years of experience; ORBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or related field + 5 years of software engineering experience.Tech Skills:Next Gen POS systems Java developmentStrong coding in Java for POS and TSA applications on 4690 OS.Proficiency in Java for API and backend services.Experience with Linux/Unix OS and RDBMS development.Solid understanding of client-server and microservices architecture.Strong front-end fundamentals (JavaScript, HTML, CSS).Experience with REST API design and development.Shell and Perl scripting for automation and tooling.Leadership:Strong communicator with the ability to simplify technical details for business partners.Proven problem solver who thrives in production environments.Team-oriented leader who inspires collaboration and accountability.At Sam's Club, we offer competitive pay as well as performance-based bonus awards and other great benefits for a happier mind, body, and wallet!

The annual salary range for this position is $90,000.00-$180,000.00
Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
