We provide durable garments and accessories for chemical protection, durable microbial barrier materials for sterile environments, non-tear, lightweight sheet products for graphics, signage, and packaging, and filtration membranes and weatherproof barriers.

In Tyvek® R&D, we deliver new products for new and existing markets, improvements in manufacturing, and/or entirely new technology platforms and assets. Our Tyvek® R&D Senior Scientists and Engineers define, lead, and execute technical programs focused on product and process technology development, based on a strong understanding of fundamental scientific and engineering principles. They are active members of the broader global technology community within DuPont™.

Primary Responsibilities:

As part of our Tyvek® R&D growth plan, we are seeking an Analytical Chemist who will develop new analytical methods for detection and quantitation, ensure process and product compliance with safety and regulatory standards, develop fundamental mechanistic understanding of product characteristics, as well as participate in product development and introduction to market.  This hiring initiative represents an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic, empowered, global R&D team that applies a rich understanding of materials, polymer science & engineering, chemistry, physics, and chemical, mechanical, and electrical engineering. We work in a very diverse environment with the mission to develop nonwoven membrane solutions that protect people, property, and critical products and processes from the hazards that threaten them.

Specific job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Defining, leading, and executing R&D programs focused on improving Tyvek® nonwoven product characteristics.Designing experiments and identifying, assessing, and developing new or improved lab and pilot scale capabilities.Developing analytical/biological methods for monitoring product performance across multiple processing steps.Ability to apply fundamental scientific and engineering principles inform product developmentCommunicating analyses and findings through technical reports and presentations.Participate in supplier discussions to identify new or improved process ingredients.Actively developing new intellectual property (IP) and managing existing IP estate.Understanding the regulatory and competitive landscape, with good comprehension of relevant IP.Collaborating in global, cross-functional teams, represented by various technical and non-technical disciplines.Partnering with other scientists and engineers to scale new processes and products to commercial production.Partnering with internal and external consultants, vendors, and other entities to efficiently execute programs.

This job may require travel up to 10% of work time.

Qualifications:

PhD or MSc in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, or related disciplinesKnowledge in the areas of process and/or product scale-up, analytical chemistry, polymer chemistry, polymer characterization, polymer processing, polymer physics, and/or thermodynamics of polymer solutionsPreferred: Knowledge in the areas of biostatistics and microbiological quantification methods. Experience in implementation & improvement of microbiological testing methods, lab and/or manufacturing risk assessments and risk mitigation, Biosafety Level (BSL) standards & practices, and proper use and maintenance of Class II Biological Safety Cabinets (BSCs).Previous professional experience, preferably in research or manufacturing roles.
