About the RoleJoin a leading shipbuilding team in Newport News! We're looking for experienced Outside Machinists with a strong background in commercial or naval shipbuilding. If you’re skilled with precision tools, blueprint reading, and heavy machinery installation, this is your opportunity to work on high-impact projects in a dynamic shipyard environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesInstall and align ship machinery, propulsion systems, and valvesOperate lathes, portable milling/drill machines, and cargo cranesPerform valve overhauls, lube oil flushing, and hydrostatic testingRepair AC/refrigeration systems and install hydraulic componentsConduct boiler tests, shafting, bearing work, and optical alignmentRead and interpret complex blueprints and technical drawingsMaintain system cleanliness and ensure OSHA complianceWhat You’ll Need4+ yearsof machinist experience (naval or commercial preferred)Strong blueprint reading and mechanical assembly skillsFamiliarity with OSHA regulations and shipyard safety standardsAbility to use precision measuring tools (micrometers, rulers, etc.)Completion of a formal apprenticeship or equivalent trainingWork EnvironmentShipyard setting: indoors/outdoors, all weather conditionsMust be able to lift 40 lbs, climb, kneel, crawl, and work in confined spacesRespirator fit test and physical exam requiredShift work based on production needsWhy Join Us?Work on cutting-edge shipbuilding projects with a team that values your expertise. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $21.73 - $27.31/hr.
