This posting is for a Transportation Worker IV in our Edgecombe County Maintenance Unit. + Work will consist of a wide range of progressively responsible maintenance tasks in the preventive maintenance, repair and construction of State Maintained roads and roadside features. + In this position you will also serve as a lead worker of a highway maintenance crew. Responsibilities include installing traffic control and erosion control devices, roadway grading, and machining unpaved roads, pavement repair, pipe installation or other drainage task, snow removal operations, inspecting contract work and monitoring manual tasks performed and operating heavy equipment. + In this position you will operate various pieces of equipment including bulldozer, excavator, backhoe, skid steer, tandem dump truck, front end loader, tractor trailer, lee boy asphalt maintainer, motor grader, rollers, and other pieces as needed on the various crews. + This work includes exposure to all types of weather conditions. This requires the ability to work on uneven surfaces and slopes. This position is subject to emergency call back and scheduled night work during adverse weather or other circumstances. Employee will be expected to promote a safe work environment. Ability to maintain working knowledge of all maintenance operating procedures. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Employee will be expected to maintain effective working relations with other employees and the general public. Ability to perform quantity calculations. Employee will be expected to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Safety toe shoes required. Class A CDL with N endorsements required.
