STV’s Systems team is seeking a Transit Operations Specialist in our Philadelphia office to support planning, analysis, and operational readiness efforts for rail and bus transit systems across the country.
This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer or transportation planner who is passionate about transit operations and interested in developing hands-on experience in service planning, operational modeling, financial analysis, and rail system performance. You’ll work alongside experienced operations leaders and subject matter experts while contributing directly to real-world transit programs and consulting engagements.
The role combines technical analysis with practical operations strategy and offers strong growth and mentorship within STV’s nationally recognized transit practice.
Responsibilities:
Support transit operations planning, service analysis, and system performance evaluations
Assist with development of service plans, operating strategies, and operational concepts
Perform ridership, cost, and financial analyses to inform transit decision-making
Contribute to rail operations modeling and simulation efforts
Support testing, validation, and development of internal rail analysis tools and utilities
Assist with operational readiness, testing, and commissioning activities
Prepare technical reports, presentations, and client deliverables
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including planners, engineers, and operations specialists
Participate in client meetings and support project coordination as needed
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Transportation Planning, or a related field
0–3 years of relevant experience or internship experience in transit, rail, or transportation projects
Strong interest in public transit operations and service planning
Analytical mindset with strong quantitative and problem-solving skills
Proficiency in Excel and data analysis tools
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Exposure to transit or rail operations, service planning, or scheduling
Experience with operations modeling or simulation tools (or willingness to learn)
Coursework or experience in financial or cost analysis
Familiarity with transportation planning software or GIS
Internship or co-op experience with a transit agency or consulting firm
Compensation Range:
