Job Description

Our canine group, under Allied Universal® Enhanced Protection Services, is hiring a Canine Training Specialist a Explosive Detection Canine (EDC) Trainer. The Enhanced Protection Services Security Explosives Detection Canine (EDC) Trainer will be responsible for the training of existing and newly hired Explosive Detection Canine Handlers (EDCH) in the assigned region.

 

If assigned, an Explosive Detection Canine will reside with you in your home when not working with you on assignment.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Plan, organize and conduct explosives detection training of active and new EDC canines/handlersDevelop and implement training programs related to explosive detection and proper search patternsInstruct canines/handlers how to detect explosives odor in an operational environmentTeach canines/handlers proper search patterns to locate explosives in a multitude of search areasConduct repetitive EDC operational training exercisesSupervise MSA employees to ensure observance to MSA policies, and the adherence to client requirementsInteract with EDC teams and clients locally, and regionally, in support of MSA contractsEnsures compliance with air cargo regulations and training requirements; design and implement internal audit methodologies; update training program to resolve deficienciesMaintains proper control of training records and materialsCompletes training reports of EDC teamsReport training results and deficiencies to management; provide expert-level recommendations for go forward employment of trainersMaintains inventory of training aides stored at training facility

QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or equivalentLicensing requirements are subject to state and/or local laws and regulations and may be required prior to employmentAbility to obtain licensing form Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF)Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a detection canine handler and/or trainerMinimum two (2) years of supervisory experienceExperience in management of human resource issues at the supervisor levelWork experience demonstrating the ability to train in passive response (final response is a sit)Must possess one or more of the following:Service in any military branch (including Guard and Reserve)Law enforcement role, with a completed accredited Law Enforcement Academy (Municipal/State/Federal)Municipal or federal correctional officer, including attending a full-time accredited LE/Corrections Academy (must have enforcement responsibilities)Computer skills and knowledge to use Microsoft Word and Excel programsExcellent oral and written communication skillsKnowledge of the herding breed and sporting breedKnowledge of Operant Conditioning and Classical ConditioningKnowledge of, and ability to handle, high and low explosivesPossess basic knowledge of canine health and well beingPossess adequate living environment to allow for the proper exercise and training of the canineHave access to reliable transportation sufficient to allow the safe transportation of the canine to and from workWillingness and ability to be available for incident/emergency response duty, standby duty, and client demonstrations, which includes various days and hours (10 to 15% travel is expected)Must possess a working smartphone capable of receiving/accepting voice mails, and a computer to enable you to set-up and access MSA Security company email

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Service in Military Occupational Specialty related to law enforcement, security (such as Military Police, Elite Military Forces, combat arms) or any support role in a Combat ZonePrior civilian or military K9 handler experienceCompletion of a full military handler courseBachelor’s degree in law enforcement or criminal justice related studiesA minimum of 8 or more years of service in any military branch
