Job Description:

Set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments out of metal. Includes precision instrument makers who fabricate, modify, or repair mechanical instruments. May also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.

Responsibilities:

Performs milling, turning, drilling, tapping, and de-burring tasks.Assists with machine set-up.Detects and reports defective materials or questionable conditions to supervisor. Maintains work area and equipment in a clean, orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations.Performs prescribed preventative maintenance on machines.Performs other duties as required.

Education: High School

HS or GED

Experience: 12 months

At least one year experience in a factory machine shop., Or an equivalent combination of education and experience., Alternate education and experience considered based on individual candidate.

Physical:

Most of the work accomplished while standing, although some sitting is involved.Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.Appropriate safety gear must be word as needed. Standing, up to 2 hours per workday

Skills:

Competent in various machine functions.Ability to read and interpret drawings.Use and be familiar with assembly and measuring tools.Ability to perform simple shop math.
