Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a Tool Engineer to join our team in El Segundo, CA.

The Tool Engineer is responsible for the concept, design, analysis, documentation, fabrication support, and inspection of tooling and equipment used in aerospace manufacturing. This role works closely with manufacturing, operations, vendors, and cross-functional engineering teams to ensure tooling meets quality, cost, schedule, and safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Develop tooling concepts and support equipment for new and existing programsDesign tooling and equipment, including engineering drawings, inspection requirements, and verification plansWork closely with Tool Designers to create and finalize drawingsReview designs for manufacturability, fit, form, and functionManage tooling projects, including cost, schedule, procurement, and fabricationInterface with internal customers and design review teams to ensure requirements are metSupport vendors during fabrication and inspect fabricated tooling for drawing complianceCollaborate with manufacturing, operations, and process engineering to support program quality, delivery, and cost objectivesSupport continuous improvement initiatives and proactive problem-solving Safety, Process, and ComplianceDesign safe and efficient tooling layouts and manufacturing processesIdentify and mitigate safety risks in accordance with company and state/government standardsSupport investigations related to root cause analysis, non-conformances, and process failures 

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in a STEM discipline with 2 years of technical experience in engineering, design, and fabrication of special tooling and related equipment experience OR  Master of Science in STEM with 0 years experience

Experience in engineering, design, and fabrication of special tooling and support equipment

NX modeling experience

 Proactive mindset focused on continuous improvement

Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret or Top Secret Clearance as well as Program Special access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to evaluate vendor capabilities for tooling and aerospace part production

Excellent organizational and project management skills

Experience with stress analysis and finite element analysis (FEA)

Primary Level Salary Range: $83,400.00 - $125,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
