We are seeking a detail-oriented Test Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude and experience in automotive testing and development. You will be responsible for the preparation and testing of vehicles, as well as documenting and analyzing results.
ResponsibilitiesReview test plans with engineers to understand load case preparation and post-test action.Install test equipment and instrumentation used in automotive testing, including accelerometers, pressure sensors, and voltage/current monitors.Route sensor cables and perform trim disassembly/reassembly for installation.Maintain accurate written and photographic records of all installed instrumentation.Prepare vehicles for testing by recording details such as weight, tire size, and restraints, draining fluids and replacing them with non-flammable substitutes, and ballasting the vehicle to the specified test weight.Use a 3D Coordinate Measurement Machine (CMM) for structural deformation measurements.Modify or replace parts of prototypes as needed, such as passenger airbags and door beams.Conduct vehicle teardown after testing, removing all instrumentation and draining fluids, and perform post-test structural teardown as directed.Work cooperatively in a team environment with other technicians and engineers.Document vehicle instruments and modifications in a database environment.Order parts and equipment as needed.Maintain shop equipment and tools and ensure a safe, clean, and organized shop environment.Essential SkillsExperience in automotive development or testing.Experience with disassembly and reassembly of interior and exterior vehicle components.General fabrication experience using TIG/MIG welders, acetylene torch, and cutting wheels.Vehicle diagnostic skills, including reading codes and troubleshooting vehicle warning lights.Proficiency in PC skills, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate integrity and ethical behavior.Ability to multi-task and meet time constraints.Excellent communication and writing skills.Strong interpersonal relationship skills in a culturally diverse environment.Additional Skills & QualificationsHigh School Diploma required; automotive technology certification, degree, or equivalent preferred.Valid Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record.Work EnvironmentThis position operates in a shop environment where safety, cleanliness, and organization are paramount. You will work with a variety of tools and equipment and collaborate closely with both technicians and engineers. The role involves physical tasks, such as vehicle disassembly and reassembly, and requires adherence to test specifications and safety protocols.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ypsilanti, MI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $24.00 - $28.00/hr.
