The COO Technology group delivers technology solutions for the Chief Operating Office, supporting operations, control executives, strategic execution, business continuity, resiliency, data services, regulatory relations, customer experience, enterprise shared services, supply chain management, and corporate properties. Our mission is to modernize and optimize technology platforms for these critical functions.
We are seeking a Technology Director to lead Data Platform Architecture and chair the COO Data Platform Architecture Forum, a strategic governance and collaboration initiative within Wells Fargo’s COO Technology division. This role is pivotal in driving data platform modernization, accelerating migration to Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and ensuring architectural consistency across verticals. The ideal candidate is a visionary leader with deep expertise in cloud-native data architectures, AI/ML enablement, and enterprise-scale governance.
In this role, you will:
Platform Engineering & Architecture
Design and implement real-time and batch data architectures on GCPDevelop scalable data pipelines and orchestration frameworks for AI/ML, BI, and Generative AI use casesImplement event-driven architectures leveraging Pub/Sub, Dataflow, BigQuery, and Cloud ComposerBuild ingestion frameworks for structured/unstructured data using Apache Beam, Dataflow templates, and GCSEnable semantic layers and knowledge graphs for context-aware dataflows supporting advanced AI systemsCollaborate with data scientists and ML engineers to ensure readiness for LLM fine-tuning and evaluationImplement data observability, lineage, and governance using Dataplex, Data Catalog, and LookerADS Architecture Forum Leadership
Chair the ADS Architecture Forum to align 16 migration efforts across COO verticalsDrive collaboration among architects to share patterns, reusable components, and best practicesIdentify and resolve technical blockers through cross-team problem-solvingProvide executive visibility into progress, risks, and resource needsPromote proven solutions for enterprise-wide adoption and accelerate time-to-productionRequired Qualifications:
8+ years of Technology Strategic Leadership experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education8+ years in data engineering and cloud-based data architecture at scale8+ years defining and executing data strategy for Data Lakes and Warehouses8+ years with data contracts, metadata management, and data quality frameworks5+ years delivering real-time data platforms using GCP services (Pub/Sub, Dataflow, BigQuery, Cloud Composer)5+ years with data mesh architectures, query federation tools (Starburst, Trino), and decentralized governance4+ years of management or leadership experience4+ years building high-performing data engineering teams and fostering innovation3+ years leading AI/ML and Generative AI initiativesDesired Qualifications:
Expertise in data modeling, partitioning, and optimization for AI/ML and BI workloadsStrong knowledge of event-driven architectures and real-time analytics use casesHands-on experience with GCP stack: BigQuery, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, Cloud Composer, GCSFamiliarity with BI & ML tools: Tableau, Power BI, Looker, Vertex AI Feature Store, BigQuery MLAbility to influence cross-functional teams and executive stakeholdersExperience in large financial services organizations (100k+ employees)Deep experience in DevSecOps best practices and modern CI/CD toolchains (Harness, GitActions)Strong executive presence, facilitation skills, and strategic thinkingExcellent communication and presentation skills across technical and non-technical audiencesProven track record of leading teams in high-pressure environmentsExperience with Agile transformations and technology roadmapsFamiliarity with Java, Big Data, or Open Architecture stackExperience managing onshore and offshore teamsJob Expectations:
