Job Title: Technical Writer/EditorJob Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Writer/Editor to create and revise technical documents. You will craft clear and effective manuals and specifications for a variety of audiences, ensuring compliance with technical standards. Your role will involve collaborating with product developers and overseeing the creation of illustrative materials.
Responsibilities
+ Write, rewrite, and edit technical documents including technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, and service manuals.
+ Communicate technical specifications and instructions effectively to a wide range of audiences.
+ Acquire subject knowledge by interviewing product developers and observing production methods.
+ Refer to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals for accurate documentation.
+ Oversee the preparation of illustrative materials, selecting appropriate drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts.
+ Provide technical writing and editing for technical data, ensuring file configuration control and compliance.
+ Conduct quality reviews of materials to ensure clarity and accuracy.
+ Mentor and instruct junior writers in technical writing practices.
+ Travel up to 10% domestically and internationally as required.
Essential Skills
+ Current active Secret Clearance at the time of application.
+ Experience working with military technical documents related to training development and integrated logistics support.
+ 5+ years of experience with the Microsoft Office product suite.
+ 3+ years of experience with Adobe Acrobat, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Illustrator.
+ Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications.
+ Experience in developing products in accordance with MIL-STD -1 and -2.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience in file configuration management.
+ Strong writing and editing skills with an ability to manipulate grammar.
+ Experience querying authors for clarity and compliance purposes.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
+ Experience utilizing the Maintenance Manual change process.
+ Experience writing in XML/S1000D for technical publications.
+ 6+ years of experience with military technical documents.
+ Background in an electronic/avionic field or Department of Defense maintenance.
+ Familiarity with developing products in accordance with MIL-STD 38784B.
+ Experience with AGILE, SCRUM, and DevOps methodologies.
Work Environment
The role is based on-site from Monday to Thursday near COS airport, with the flexibility to work from home on Fridays. The position follows a 9/80 schedule, allowing for a balanced work-life arrangement.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Colorado Springs, CO.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $120000.00 - $140000.00/hr.
