Job SummaryThe Inclusive Storytelling Hub, a new initiative at the College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters, seeks a creative, self-motivated video production and research assistant. The ISH will partner with other organizations on campus to record, edit, and distribute videos of oral histories of the experiences of Middle Eastern residents in the Dearborn area, creating empathy through audiovisual storytelling. The production assistant will be involved in all aspects of production, including camera operation, audio recording, editing, and research into archival media such as historical newspapers or films. Additionally, creative editorial assignments will arise including promotional videos, event recap videos, and documentary style work.
The ideal candidate will have experience with video production from start to finish, strong communication skills, a positive attitude and experience using Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro or DaVinci Resolve. For the right candidate, additional training will be provided. The production assistant will work directly with a supervisor on various videos and projects throughout the semester/academic year including (but not limited to) interviews, b-roll footage, stock/archival searches and organizing, footage transfer and/or tape digitizing, and project template building.
Priority given to majors in the Journalism and Media Production program but all students are welcome to apply.
This position may be combined with course credit through the History and Humanities internship program.
Students who complete this program will increase their professional skills in storytelling and video production, add professional-level video productions to their job portfolio, and contribute to building out a resume tailored to a variety of communications-related professions.
