DESCRIPTION

Michael Baker is seeking a Technical Manager to serve as a transportation engineer integrated in-house with the staff of a major tollway commission client. The successful candidate will be involved with all technical and policy aspects of traffic engineering, including permanent and temporary traffic control devices, crash report review, analysis and improvement recommendations, incident management, intelligent transportation systems, researching and implementation of new technology to enhance roadway safety, and to develop specifications, standards and procedures for these items. This individual will provide a diverse range of technical expertise and services, while serving as trusted advisor to help advance the agency’s strategic goals and objectives.

RESPONSIBLITIES

Directly coordinate with senior management, engineering, construction and maintenance staff, consulting engineers, contractors, and Highway Patrol to coordinate ongoing initiatives and address issues associated with Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) and Traffic Control measures. Provide technical design review and oversight of the traffic engineering aspects of ongoing design and construction projects. Participate in the development, implementation and operation of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) infrastructure. Assist in the identification and planning of future traffic and safety technology projects. Review crash reports and traffic data, perform analysis, and make safety improvement recommendations. Assist with the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs), special provisions/specifications and standard drawings for both permanent and temporary traffic control needs. Responsible for maintaining client satisfaction. Stay knowledgeable of trends and current developments within the traffic engineering industry. Coordinate with Michael Baker office staff in the delegation, preparation, and completion of work tasks when additional resources are needed. Help manage staff utilization by scheduling, monitoring, and revising such assignments as needed. Provide technical guidance to less experienced personnel on specific tasks. Other duties as assigned.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.  Ohio P.E. license required, PTOE certification is a plus. 10+ years of progressive traffic and/or highway design experience.  Specific MOT engineering experience is a plus. Have experience working on ODOT and/or Ohio Turnpike design projects.   Proficient with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation and Microsoft Office Suite.  Open Roads Design (ORD) experience a positive. Ability to build relationships with a wide variety of people, multitask and prioritize competing project obligations. Strong English language skills, written and verbal are essential to long term success in this role. Self-motivated, flexible, and able to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Strong organizational and time-management skills. This position does not offer sponsorship.

COMPENSATION 

The approximate compensation range for this position is $150,000 to $185,000. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting.  Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
