Technical Manager, Data Centre

Key Responsibilities

Lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers, technicians, and contractors responsible for 24/7 data centre operations.

Manage preventive and predictive maintenance programs for all critical systems (UPS, generators, chillers, PDUs, CRAC units, etc.).

Oversee change management processes (including MOPs/SOPs) to minimize risk during maintenance or upgrades.

Enforce compliance with industry standards (e.g., Uptime Institute Tier levels, ISO 27001, ISO 50001, TIA-942, local regulations).

Drive energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives (e.g., PUE optimization, water usage reduction).

Manage relationships with third-party vendors, service providers, and equipment OEMs.

Support capacity planning, facility expansions, and new builds in collaboration with design and project teams.

Maintain accurate documentation of as-built systems, operating procedures, and asset inventories.

Participate in emergency response and business continuity planning exercises.

 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related technical field.

Minimum 7 years of experience in mission-critical environments, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role within a Tier III/IV data centre.

In-depth knowledge of data centre infrastructure:

Electrical systems (HV/LV distribution, UPS, generators, switchgear)

Mechanical systems (chilled water, CRAH/CRAC, free cooling, piping)

Building Management Systems (BMS), DCIM platforms, and monitoring tools

Strong understanding of health & safety protocols (e.g., NFPA 70E, lockout/tagout, confined space).

Experience with ITIL, ISO management systems, or similar operational frameworks.

Proven ability to manage budgets, SLAs, and KPIs (e.g., PUE, MTTR, MTBF).

Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.

Availability for on-call rotation and occasional after-hours support.

Preferred Qualifications

Professional certifications such as CDCP, CDCS, CDFOM (from BICSI or AFCOM), PMP, or PE license.

Experience with hyperscale or colocation data centre environments.

Familiarity with sustainability reporting frameworks (e.g., CDP, GRESB) or renewable energy integration.

Knowledge of cybersecurity principles as they apply to OT/ICS systems in critical facilities.
