JOB SUMMARY: Under limited supervision, operates computer-aided design (CAD) system and peripheral equipment to design and enter into system the data to generate complex mechanical and/or electric circuit drawings using a (DFM) "Design For Manufacturability" approach. Revises and updates changes to existing drawings. Assists engineers in creating and sustaining products.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.)
+ Reviews work orders and/or customer requests to determine design requirements (dimensions, tolerances, etc.).
+ Creates mechanical and/or electrical drawings, inspection drawings, specification and assembly drawings utilizing DFM for complex levels of product requirements, for review and approval by Engineering and Design staff.
+ Constructs bill of materials and defines necessary materials for accurate data entry into the corporate MRP system.
+ Writes engineering change notices to change drawings and bills of materials.
+ Writes computer programs and utilities and creates mechanical or schematic symbols and parts as needed to facilitate the CAD process and interfaces with other computer resources.
+ Enters specified information into computer to generate computer records of approved designs.
+ Confers with engineering and design staff to determine design modifications and enters editing information into computer.
+ Inspects accuracy of own work as well as coworker's designs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
+ Associate's degree or equivalent in electro-mechanical design or a related field, and five to six years experience in technical designing; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
+ Ability to read and interpret documents such as work orders, customer specifications, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
+ Ability to interface with associates in support of product designs in a team based environment.
+ Ability to apply engineering mathematics, algebra, and geometry.
+ Ability to use CAD system and peripheral equipment (Pro-E, Solid Works, and AutoCAD).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to ten pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
