Job DescriptionCOMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST
Support mission-critical initiatives and enable the growth of our business as a Communications Specialist at GDIT. Here, you’ll become an integral part of how GDIT is able to ensure the safety and security of our nation.
Duties/Responsibilities: Systems Control/Tech Control Technicians operate, monitor, secure and control the physical, data link, network and transport layers of the network, perform Circuit Restoration actions, and apply Quality Control and Performance Standards.
Systems Control/Tech-Control Technicians perform Circuit Management actions, accomplish established reporting, tracking, and monitoring procedures, perform trend analysis, Systems Control/Tech-Control Technicians request and schedule Authorized Service Interruptions (ASI) and maintain a Master Station Log.They perform Node Site Coordinator duties to DISA and perform Circuit Actions as required.Systems Control/Tech-Control Technicians perform Facility Circuit Information Tracking (FACIT) Database Administration duties and key/rekey COMSEC devices.They provide Information Technology Services Management (ITSM) support, to include Incident/Problem, Change, Service Request and Knowledge Management support.Provides support for Systems Notices, Authorized Service Interruptions (ASI), and scheduled/unscheduled outages.Systems Control/Tech-Control Technicians possess and maintain DoDD 8570.01M/DoDD 8140 IAT II certification, as well as appropriate computing environment certifications.Minimum/General Experience: This position requires a minimum of six years of experience, of which at least four years must be specialized experience in one of the following: communications software, communications hardware or network specialty. General experience includes all aspects of communication networks. Must demonstrate the ability to work independently or under only general direction.
Communications Hardware specialized experience includes installing, testing, and operating network and computer (host) communications equipment (e.g., switches, modems, controllers, terminals, and multiplexers): using and implementing communications hardware and electrical standards, using communications hardware test and monitoring equipment and analyzing the results.
Minimum Education/Experience: A Bachelor’s degree in computer science/systems, information systems/technology, engineering/engineering technology, software engineering/programming, or related degree; and 4 years specialized experience.
Education and experience requirements may be substituted with:
A Master’s Degree (in subjects described above) and three years specialized experience.
No degree and eight years is specialized.
