Overview

This position is responsible for overseeing and directing the engineering design and the preparation of cost estimates for the construction and reconstruction of overhead and underground electric and gas distribution facilities.  Additionally, this position coordinates policies and procedures, implements assigned strategies, assists manager with special projects.  Ensures that all services are provided in accordance with Company rules, regulations, polices, and goals, while maintaining/enhancing positive client/company relationships.

 

Oversees and directs the preparation and execution of LG&E gas and electric contracts for builders, developers, commercial and residential customers for the construction and reconstruction of overhead and underground electric and gas distribution facilities.

Responsibilities

•Leads a professional group of employees in the preparation and the processing of gas and electric customer contribution contracts in accordance with Company guidelines.  Provides comprehensive information to customer inquiries including gas and electric line extension policies, practices.  Prepares other contractual agreements as required.
•Supervises Project Coord Sr Asset Mgmt, Contract Coordinators I, II, Seniors and Leads communicates with employees about job performance, including establishing measurable goals, conducting midyear and yearend review meeting and following the PEP guidelines for managing performance.
•Supervises the development of career potential of employees by establishing Individual Development Plans and identifying development activities for current and future assignments.
•Supervises and oversees the Permit Department and PBWK projects, handling day to day issues and concerns.
•Leads the development and administration of departmental policies and procedures consistent with government agency regulations and other company policies.
•Assists in the calculation of new rates for Front Footage costs, Underground versus Overhead rates, Gas and Electric extension rates, etc.
•Supervises the emergency repair of storm damage for distribution lines and facilities.
•Supervises the preparation of construction plans, cost estimates, etc., for overhead and underground electric and gas distribution work performed in the Company service area.
•Reviews designs for cost effectiveness, accuracy and accordance to quality criteria and company standards.
•Ensures proper coordination with other utilities, cable companies, contractors, governmental agencies, etc., as to location and, if necessary, relocation of electric and gas facilities.
•Directs the layout and design for new construction and reconstruction of electric and gas facilities within the Company system.  Schedules and assigns design jobs to ensure routine and long-range customer requirements are met.
•Assists and supports design team members (design techs, ROW agents, account managers, etc.) in daily activities as needed.
•Reviews design lay-outs for location of electric and gas easements required for construction projects on private property.
•Leads the electric distribution transformer department by managing budget, maintaining proper inventory, and disposal of retired transformers.
•Assists Manager and Group Leader with oversight of large and/or complex projects.
•Supervises exempt or non-exempt personnel responsible for timekeeping, maintenance of department files, records, office machines and supply orders.
•Maintains employee records (e.g., off-duty, tardiness, overtime, progressive disciplinary action, etc.).
•Evaluates both union and non-union employee job performance and progress; reviews evaluation with employee and recommends employee promotions and disciplinary action.
•Conducts fact findings and responds to first step grievances.
•Conducts and/or attends safety tailgate sessions on a regularly scheduled basis.
•Works on PSRT team or other storm restoration duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education

Bachelor's Degree in Business or Engineering

 

Required Experience

5+ years related experience.Additional technical training in design, construction, tariffs and policies.

Preferred Qualfications

•Master’s degree
•Broad knowledge of the Distribution Design function.
•Excellent interpersonal relations skills.
•This position requires constant interdepartmental and customer interaction.
•Above average computer skills.
•Previous gas or electric construction and/or design experience
•Work is diversified and requires analysis and solution of non-routine, complex problems requiring the evaluation of a wide variety of data.
•Independent judgment is required in making decisions from various alternatives.
•Ability to use formal education and/or experience in practical application to work assignments.
•Maintains working knowledge of LG&E Systems/software (WIM, CIS, RAPP, Smallworld, Autocad, Intranet, Oracle, Windows, Microsoft Office, etc.).
•Understands other company programs that interface with the Energy Delivery Gas and Electric Operations.
