Job Description and Duties Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor of Academic and within the context of Office of Correctional Education (OCE) Academic Program requirements, regulations, and guidelines, and under the supervision of a Supervisor of Academic Instruction, and under the direction of a credentialed academic teacher, the teaching assistant shall give support to teacher(s) by providing educational services to assigned/enrolled students. The teaching assistant’s duties involve; tutoring one-on-one sessions; facilitating small group sessions; correcting student homework, quizzes, and other class work; assisting in testing students; working with the teacher to assist with monitoring student progress; and tracking program completions.

Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade. Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge of: The purposes of the Departments of the Youth Authority and Corrections.

Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. If you are meeting Minimum Qualifications with education, you should include your unofficial transcripts/diploma for verification. Official transcripts may be required upon appointment. If it is determined an applicant does not meet the Minimum Qualifications, the candidate will be withheld from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible to be hired for the position. Candidates who have been withheld may file an appeal with the State Personnel Board.
