Description
A leading public accounting and advisory firm is seeking an experienced Tax Managing Director to join its Corporate Tax practice. This individual will serve as a key leader within the office and regional tax team, advising clients on complex tax matters, overseeing high-level compliance, and guiding internal staff. This role functions as a top technical resource, primary client contact, and strategic contributor for tax planning, compliance, and business development initiatives.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in corporate taxation, strong leadership skills, and the ability to navigate complex federal and state tax matters.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Compliance & Engagement Management
+ Ensure clients comply with all applicable tax authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens.
+ Oversee engagement management metrics and hands-on service delivery.
+ Ensure compliance with firm policies and the Tax Quality Manual (TQM).
+ Provide oversight on engagement letters, documentation, and workflow for client service teams.
Research & Technical Review
+ Identify research needs and communicate issues clearly to the team.
+ Guide the research process for complex tax matters.
+ Serve as a technical reviewer for workpapers and tax analyses within areas of expertise.
ASC 740 / Tax Accounting
+ Apply firm standards related to ASC 740 (FAS 109 & FIN 48).
+ Review and apply income tax provisions, including areas such as international taxation, valuation allowances, business combinations, and stock-based compensation.
Tax Consulting & Planning
+ Develop and recommend tax strategies that maximize client benefits.
+ Apply expertise across multiple tax specialties (International, SALT, credits & incentives, etc.).
+ Identify planning opportunities and evaluate alternative approaches to compliance and reporting.
Tax Specialization
+ Maintain deep technical knowledge in one or more tax specialty areas (corporate, pass-through, international, SALT, etc.).
+ Serve as a recognized expert and provide guidance to clients and internal teams.
Strategic Leadership
+ Contribute to strategy development aimed at improving client outcomes and firm processes.
+ Present complex tax strategies to clients and prospective clients when needed.
Additional Responsibilities
+ Participate in marketing, networking, and business development efforts.
+ Maintain strong client relationships and serve as a primary point of contact.
Supervisory Responsibilities
+ Supervise, mentor, and review the work of associates, senior associates, and managers.
+ Manage workload allocation and scheduling for team members.
+ Provide formal and informal performance feedback.
+ Act as a Career Advisor and support professional development within the team.
Requirements
BENEFITS OFFERED:
+ SALARY RANGE: $196,000-$249,000
+ Healthcare Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision

Qualifications
Education
+ Bachelor’s degree required (Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field preferred).
+ Master’s degree in Accounting or Taxation preferred.
Experience
+ 10+ years of relevant tax experience in public accounting, private industry, or consulting.
+ Prior leadership and supervisory experience required.
+ Experience in one or more tax specialty areas preferred.
Licensure
+ CPA, EA, or JD required.
+ Additional certifications a plus.
Skills & Abilities
+ Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
+ Strong analytical, research, and critical thinking abilities.
+ Ability to manage and develop high-performing teams.
+ Executive presence and confidence in leading client discussions.
+ Ability to write clear, well-supported tax advice.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with tax research and compliance software preferred.
