Tax Manager, Tax Provision Technology
Description The Amazon tax department is a fast-paced, team-focused, and dynamic environment. Amazon is seeking a Tax Manager to drive Tax Provision technology and process improvement initiatives within our Worldwide Tax Provision team. This role will focus on tax technical concepts while developing and implementing technological solutions to optimize US GAAP tax provision operations, with an emphasis on automation, process enhancement, and innovation. Key job responsibilities • Independently lead complex tax technical process improvement projects for US GAAP worldwide reporting • Design and implement automation solutions using technology (Python, SQL, Alteryx, AI, and other relevant tools) • Deep dive into current processes and identify opportunities for optimization • Collaborate with tax subject matter experts and tax technology teams to deliver requirements, develop and test scalable solutions, and drive implementation • Ensure compliance with tax laws and US GAAP reporting while innovating tax processes and technologies • Create and maintain project documentation for new processes and solutions • Analyze complex tax data sets and develop insights to inform decision-making • Keep up to date on tax law and the organizational impact of changes • Evaluate and recommend new tax technology solutions, which includes driving the function’s AI adoption strategy and implementation efforts • Train and mentor tax team members about technology solutions and tax models • Serve as a subject matter expert in tax technology, bridging the gap between tax technical and IT A day in the life As Tax Manager within Amazon's Worldwide Tax Provision team, you will focus on driving process improvements and technology solutions while collaborating on US GAAP provision reporting. Your day includes leading project meetings with cross-functional teams, analyzing tax processes, and identifying automation opportunities. You will work closely with tax professionals and technology teams to gather requirements, troubleshoot issues, and implement innovative solutions. Your tasks may include reviewing automation code, developing data visualization dashboards, or evaluating new tax technology solutions. While maintaining deep tax technical knowledge, you will balance multiple priorities to drive technological transformation in US GAAP tax provision operations. About the team The Tax Provision team is responsible for US GAAP financial statement reporting of Amazon’s global income tax obligations. This includes ownership of end-to-end global reporting process incorporating inputs from global tax teams. The Tax Provision Team provides domain expertise related to US GAAP accounting for income taxes, including technical accounting prescribed by ASC 740, and owns operational accounting associated with Amazon’s global income tax profile. This area requires operational excellence, driving technological innovation and process improvements enhancing efficiency and controllership in our deliverables. Our work directly impacts all tax-related financial statement disclosures included within our SEC filings. Basic Qualifications - 5+ years of tax, finance or a related analytical field experience - CPA - Knowledge of at least one data-focused technology tool, such as Python, SQL, Alteryx, Amazon QuickSight, or similar - Knowledge of accounting principles, processes, and entries - Experience working in a large public accounting firm or multi-national corporate tax department - Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications at an advanced level Preferred Qualifications - Master's degree in accounting, information systems, finance, or equivalent - Experience with VBA, Python, SQL, or other database language - Experience with Corptax tax return and provision preparation or equivalent software - Experience with Agile methodologies Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status. The base pay for this position ranges from $80,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $172,900/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
