Amazon's Tax Commercial Transaction team analyzes the cost and risk associated with the execution and performance of all of Amazon's contracts worldwide.
The team:
• Summarizes, reviews and approves individual contracts, as well as, provides tax pre-approval guidance to the business and legal teams
• Leverages technical solutions in order to scale the ever increasing and diversifying demands of Amazon's global business model
• Provides a bridge between its colleagues in Tax who are business-facing and the attorneys in Amazon Legal who negotiate contracts with counterparties of all sizes globally
• Is a strategic partner to tax, legal and business in supporting cross border reporting and travel approvals
The ideal candidate will be able to work with a high level of collegiality and be comfortable with liaising with various business and legal teams, in addition to members of the tax department. Key job responsibilities
The Manager on the Tax Contracts Team will be responsible for reviewing contracts that are submitted through the Tax Contracts Tool, and understanding the commercial arrangement, identifying any high-risk tax issues.
The Manager will work with Amazon's corporate counsel to negotiate favorable commercial deals and will at times work with counterparty tax and commercial legal teams. The Manager will also be responsible for annually reviewing and updating approval policies standard tax provisions or more often as required by new laws and regulations in the cities, states, provinces, and countries where Amazon operates.
Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years of tax, finance or a related analytical field experience
- J.D., or CPA
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience that includes strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities
- Experience negotiating third party commercial arrangements and advising on the tax implications
- A degree in law, chartered accountant (or equivalent), or graduate degree in taxation Experience in a law firm, Big 4 accounting firm or multinational corporation
- A results-oriented attitude
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple competing priorities simultaneously
