Tax Analyst, PCS - Tax Engine
Description Amazon is looking for a Tax Analyst in the Tax PCS (Product Classification Services) Operations team in Bratislava, Slovakia. The team as part of the Global Tax Calculation Services Program is comprised of tax professionals and software engineers that are responsible for providing end-to-end global transaction tax calculation solutions (sales and use taxes, value-added taxes, goods and services taxes, and other consumption taxes) to Amazon and thousands of other merchants selling on Amazon marketplaces and other e-commerce platforms. The Tax Analyst will be responsible for monitoring, maintaining and making regular updates to our tax calculation systems, user interface, background calculation files, and performing other functions in the tax space. The candidate is expected to propose improvements to processes, metrics, or documentation based on a thorough knowledge of their areas of responsibility. Success in this role will significantly impact tax accuracy and contribute to the achievement of various team projects and initiatives. Key job responsibilities * Identifies necessary resources and designs optimal interfaces by adopting the end-user perspective. * Partner with cross-functional teams—including Tax, Legal, Product, and Tech—to investigate and resolve any issues. * Drive continuous improvement by identifying process inefficiencies and contributing to the development of scalable, automated calculation solutions * Support the testing, validation, and rollout of new projects, including machine learning and AI-powered enhancements to tax calculation workflows. * Perform data analysis and generate reports using Excel and other business intelligence tools to inform decision-making and improve operational performance. * Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, including subject area guides, standard operating procedures, and knowledge articles for internal use. * Collaborate with global peers to create and finalize content required for legislative updates, project launches, or internal feedback loops. Base pay for this position starts from EUR 2133 gross per month and salary depends on the skills and requirements, there will be further pay components such as a sign on bonus and the eligibility to participate in a restricted stock unit scheme operated independently by Amazon.com Inc. in USA. This position is office-based, with some flexibility to work remotely in exceptional circumstances in line with Amazon’s current work guidance. Key job responsibilities Configuration and ongoing maintenance of Amazon.com’s transaction tax calculation software. • Researching transaction tax laws to create and maintain the tax rules (e.g., product taxability) within the transaction tax calculation software. • Participating in projects throughout their lifecycle – from design through delivery – with an emphasis on testing to ensure that projects conform to the business requirements and rules. • Participate in team operational excellence programs and process improvements. • Communicating tax rules and offering subject matter expertise on tax calculation software to internal and external teams. Basic Qualifications • Excellent communication (written and oral in English) and interpersonal skills. • 2+ years of corporate experience. • Strong analytical skills. • Detail oriented, highly organized, decisive, and self-motivated. • Excel – advanced. • SQL – intermediate. • Experience working in fast-paced environments with tight deadlines. • Proven ability to work and deliver effectively in customer-focused, cross-functional teams. Preferred Qualifications • Bachelor's degree. • Experience working in a product classification function. • Proficiency at querying relational databases and ability to pull data from multiple sources. • Advanced level in SQL is an advantage. • Python basics is an advantage.
