Northrop Grumman Space Systems, Multi-Domain Operations, and Missile Defense Integration Business Unit (BU) has an exciting career opportunity for a Staff Systems Engineer – Level 5 to join our team of qualified, diverse, and innovative individuals located in Huntsville, AL.


Position Overview:

The System Engineering & Integration Team (SE&IT) is seeking a Staff Systems Engineer – Level 5 to join the System Design and Requirements Capability team. 

The Staff Systems Engineer – Level 5 will lead efforts to integrate Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) capabilities and tools within the System Design and Requirements (SD&R) capability team, as well as coordinating MBSE efforts across other program and customer teams. This includes taking an administrative role with the program’s model and metamodel, hosted in Cameo. Collaborative efforts include integrating the program model with customer models at multiple levels and adding additional capabilities to the functional model, such as Reliability / Availability / Maintainability (RAM) analysis and parametric integration of numerical profiles.

The selected candidate will also facilitate the team’s use of the model to conduct functional and behavior analysis for the defeat of conventional and advanced Threats (i.e., ballistic, aero-maneuvering, hypersonic, hyper-glide, countermeasures, etc.) systems within the (MDA) mission areas. 

Essential Functions:

Collaborate in an MBSE environment to maintain the model, support development of system-of-systems requirements via system/component trade studies and analysis.Lead the development of Change Notices (CNs) to Missile Defense Agency’s (MDA’s) system specification to include functional, interface and performance requirements, architectural models, interface definitions.Support Trace verification from System to Element level requirements.   Develop and deliver products (i.e., technical briefings) to support internal and MDA stakeholder reviews.

Basic Qualifications:   

Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 12 years of related experience, or a Master's STEM Degree and 10 years of related experience, or 8 years of related experience with a PhD.Demonstrate a strong technical background in architecture development, functional decomposition and allocation of requirements (performance, functional and interface definition) with system-modelling tools.Applicants must have strong prior experience with the use of MSOSA (Cameo) and DOORSDemonstrated knowledge in any of the MDA domain areas, including Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD), Glide Phase Intercept (GPI), Hypersonic and Ballistic Tracking Space Sensor (HBTSS), Fire Control, C2BMC, MDS sensors (EO/IR/RF).Applicants must have experience maintaining architecture models and metamodels.Experience leading and briefing design reviews from the model, I.e. Digital Design Review.Ability to think critically and capture concepts in papers, presentations and discussions.Excellent communication/presentation skills and be capable of working both independently and within a small team environment.The successful candidate will work in close coordination with the customer.Must be willing to work full time on-site at a customer facility in Huntsville, AL. (Boeing Jetplex)Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.Applicants must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD issued Secret security clearance at the time of application which is required to start.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience modeling or simulating missile defense applications or similar domains (air combat, air defense, intercept of ballistic targets, intercept of non-ballistic targets, space vehicles, sub-orbital mechanics, etc.).Experience administrating an architecture model.Knowledge of ballistic and advanced threat systems (i.e., aero-maneuvering, hypersonic, hyper-glide, countermeasures, etc.).Systems engineering experience with large, complex systems.Knowledge of integrating AI techniques within MBSE practices to optimize productivity and enhance quality.

Primary Level Salary Range: $169,000.00 - $253,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
