**Job Description:**
**Position Summary**
Parsons is seeking a **Systems Engineer** with strong **CAD design** and **knowledge management** expertise to support a complex, geographically distributed mission program. This role focuses on producing and controlling high-quality engineering drawings and site documentation (physical layouts, rack elevations, cabling, power/space plans, and related schematics) and ensuring those artifacts remain accurate, discoverable, and operationally useful through disciplined knowledge management practices.
The successful candidate will work closely with infrastructure, networking, field engineering, facilities, and configuration management teams to create and maintain “as-designed” and “as-built” documentation that improves deployment repeatability, troubleshooting efficiency, and operational readiness.
**Key Responsibilities**
**CAD Design / Engineering Drawings**
+ Develop and maintain engineering drawings and layouts using CAD tools for:
+ Equipment room layouts and space planning
+ Rack elevations (front/back), RU allocations, and rack bill-of-materials
+ Cable routing and labeling schematics (copper/fiber)
+ Power distribution layouts (PDUs/UPS feeds, circuit labeling, A/B power where applicable)
+ Network diagrams where CAD-based drawings are required for deployment packages
+ Produce deployment-ready drawing packages including title blocks, revision history, and drawing standards.
+ Convert field notes and site surveys into accurate “as-built” drawings, incorporating photos and measurements where needed.
+ Ensure drawings comply with program drafting standards and are usable by field engineering teams during installation and maintenance.
**Knowledge Management (KM) and Documentation Control**
+ Establish and maintain structured knowledge repositories for engineering artifacts:
+ Drawing libraries, templates, reusable blocks, and standard symbols
+ Site build packages and “as-built” documentation sets
+ Installation guides, runbooks, and troubleshooting references tied to site configurations
+ Define metadata/tagging standards so documents are searchable by site, system, CI identifiers, and version.
+ Manage document lifecycle control: drafting → review → approval → publication → revision → retirement.
+ Work with CM and ITSM leads to link knowledge artifacts to:
+ configuration baselines
+ incidents/problems (lessons learned)
+ approved changes/releases
**Systems Engineering Support**
+ Support requirements decomposition and allocation related to physical deployments (space, power, cooling, cabling).
+ Participate in technical reviews and deployment readiness activities by providing updated drawings and documentation evidence.
+ Coordinate with field engineering and operations to validate documentation accuracy and capture discrepancies.
**Standards, Templates, and Quality**
+ Maintain a standard set of CAD templates, drawing conventions, and reusable components to improve consistency across deployments.
+ Implement a quality checklist for drawing deliverables (completeness, labeling, scale, revision control, site identifiers).
+ Support audits by ensuring document traceability and controlled revision history.
**Required Qualifications**
+ 5+ years of experience in systems engineering, deployment engineering, or documentation engineering with significant CAD responsibilities.
+ Proficiency with one or more CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD, DraftSight, Revit, SolidWorks—program dependent).
+ Demonstrated experience producing:
+ equipment room layouts
+ rack elevations
+ cabling and power schematics
+ site “as-built” packages
+ Strong knowledge management skills: building and maintaining structured repositories, templates, and document control workflows.
+ Ability to work across teams (field, network, infrastructure, facilities, CM) and translate technical inputs into clear drawings and documentation.
+ Strong written communication and attention to detail.
+ TS/SCI clearance
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Experience with data center / telecom room documentation: MDF/IDF layouts, patch panels, fiber/copper standards.
+ Familiarity with configuration management practices and controlled document libraries (revisioning, baselines, audits).
+ Experience using documentation platforms (e.g., Confluence/SharePoint) and integrating diagrams/drawings with knowledge bases.
+ Familiarity with labeling standards (TIA/EIA) and structured cabling best practices.
+ Experience supporting distributed site deployments and working from site surveys and field engineering feedback.
**What Success Looks Like (First 90–120 Days)**
+ Establish/align CAD drawing standards, templates, and naming conventions.
+ Produce a prioritized set of updated site/rack drawings for high-need facilities and lab environments.
+ Implement a searchable knowledge structure that links drawings, build packages, and “as-built” artifacts to site identifiers and configuration baselines.
+ Reduce rework and field issues by improving accuracy and accessibility of site documentation.
**Work Location / Travel**
+ US-based; up to 20% travel may be required to support site surveys, lab buildouts, or validation of as-built conditions.
**Security Clearance Requirement:**
An active Top Secret SCI security clearance is required for this position.
