Armament Systems is a leading supplier of integrated medium-caliber weapon systems for land, air and sea platforms through its world-renowned Bushmaster® line of automatic cannons produced at its Mesa, Arizona facility.
Role Description:
This position is a senior engineering leadership role in the Medium Caliber Gun Systems Group within Northrop Grumman Defense Systems. As a leader in Guns Engineering, the Systems Chief Engineer is responsible for the technical excellence of all medium caliber product lines and drives execution of development programs and well as supporting production and customers. This position is located in Mesa, Arizona.
Responsibilities
This position carries the following set of primary responsibilities:
Reports to the head of engineering at the Mesa Arizona site and is responsible for the technical excellence of the medium caliber guns systems product linesProvides outstanding leadership on development programs including resolving highly complex technical problemsIs the final engineering technical authority for assigned productsEnsures pertinent design factors such as contractual, environmental, cost, schedule, technical performance, system integration, producibility, interchangeability, and material requirements are considered during new product developmentLeads failure investigations and associated corrective actionsActs as a technical interface to external customers, and forms working relationships with representatives of external technical organizations.Works closely with project engineering and program management to meet overall program objectivesShares knowledge with other engineersProvides mentoring to other engineersProvides guidance to staff on interpretation of operating procedures and process documentsDrives continuous improvement of engineering tools, methods and technical capabilitiesLeads and coordinates continuous improvement projects benefiting the department and other functionsBasic Requirements:
BS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering15 years of design and development experience in the defense or aerospace industries5+ years of project or program leadershipDemonstrated ability to resolve difficult technical problemsDesign and development experience in highly integrated mechanical / electrical systemsFamiliarity with engineering drawings including GD&T, ANSI Y14.5Understanding of design for assembly / design for manufacturing (DFA/DFM)Experience in performing failure analysis and driving implementation of robust corrective actionExperiencing writing and reviewing test plans, procedures and reportsStrong oral and written communication skillsDemonstrated strength in technical writingU.S. Citizen and be able to obtain a DoD Secret ClearancePosition may require domestic and international travel, <10%This position falls under a Federal Explosives License issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for this location. Candidates hired into this role will be required to complete and submit an Employee Possessor Questionnaire to ATF for approval to be a possessor.Preferred Requirements:
An advanced degree, MS in Mechanical or Aerospace EngineeringExperience with MIL Standards and DO requirements standards (including MIL-STD- 810 and MIL-STD-882)Familiarity with metallurgical concepts related to heat treating and coatingsStrong background in stress and dynamic analysis and testingExperience in Finite Element modelingDesign experience with electric motors, solenoids, sensors and gear trainsDesign experience with safety critical control systemsPrimary Level Salary Range: $178,600.00 - $268,000.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
