Systems Architect
Job Description **Who will you be working with?** The Wabtec Train Handling portfolio includes LOCOTROL® a product platform that includes Distributed Power and Remote Control Locomotive technologies and Trip Optimizer® an Energy Management system that is designed to optimize and automate the operation of trains by creating the most fuel-efficient plan that respects the time and train handling constraints of the customer. **How will you make a difference?** In this role, the **Systems Architect** is responsible for driving some of the most complex and technically challenging projects within the **LOCOTROL portfolio** . You will also help lead strategic initiatives to grow Trip Optimizer in both near term and future successes. **What will your typical day look like?** + Translate business and feature requirements into sustainable, scalable system architectures that support long-term growth and adaptability. + Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure that technical designs align seamlessly with both functional needs and business objectives. + Oversee the end-to-end execution of features, ensuring alignment between architectural intent, technical implementation, and business value throughout the development lifecycle. + Work with the team to drive the creation and continuous evolution of product and technology roadmaps. + Evaluate and recommend tools, platforms, and technologies that enhance our system’s ability for long-term innovation. + Provide architectural guidance and technical leadership throughout the development lifecycle. + Maintain documentation that clearly communicates architectural decisions, guidelines, and solutions. + Experience with hardware design and wireless communication systems, including radio and modem technologies. Qualifications **What do we want to know about you?** + BE/BTech/MTech in ECE /Computer Science /EEE or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). + 8+ years of experience working with multidisciplinary technical teams in a collaborative environment. + Led and supported feature design and implementation efforts across diverse project teams. + Skilled in gathering and synthesizing requirements from customers and key business stakeholders to inform technical direction and decision-making. + Proficient in systems requirements definition and architectural design, with expertise in identifying and mitigating risks while optimizing performance, security, and scalability. + Excellent communication and collaboration skills—able to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders. + A strategic mindset with the ability to balance immediate technical needs with long-term vision. _Preferred Experience/Skills:_ + Experience with LOCOTROL, GoLINC, and Trip Optimizer Energy Management + Strong understanding of software development methodologies + Familiarity with agile practices and product development lifecycles. + Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS): Experience with systems like QNX including scheduling, timing analysis, and deterministic behavior. + Experience with engineering development tool sets, such as IBM ELM + Familiarity with both Tollgate and agile practices and product development lifecycles. + Experience in a leadership or mentorship role within multidisciplinary teams. The salary rate for this role is currently $120600-$171700 The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location.
