Position Summary:

McGill University is seeking a Systems Analyst to support the development, implementation, and maintenance of information systems that enhance the management and operation of the University’s Research Core Facilities and other research administration and data systems within the Office of the Vice-President, Research and Innovation (VPRI).

Research Core Facilities are shared research platforms that provide access to specialized equipment, expertise, training, services, technologies, and scientific and technical personnel. These facilities support researchers within and outside McGill, as well as industry partners, and are a critical component of McGill’s research infrastructure.

Reporting to the Director of Research Software and working closely with the Associate Director, Research Systems and Planning (Office of VPRI), the incumbent will play a pivotal role in liaising between Research Administration, Core Facility Managers, Finance, and IT teams to ensure that the core facilities management software (e.g., Idea Elan Infinity X) supports operational workflows, institutional goals and compliance standards. While the initial focus of the role will be on Core Facilities management systems, the position is expected to contribute more broadly to the analysis, configuration, integration, and support of other VPRI data and administrative systems as institutional needs evolve. This position involves business analysis, system configuration, data integration, user training, and vendor liaison to ensure the continuous improvement and sustainability of Core Facilities systems.


Primary Responsibilities:

Work closely with the VPRI Office team on the development and implementation of the Core Facilities management software to support institutional needs.Provide professional expertise on business process optimization and system integration initiatives.Gather, analyze and document technical and functional requirements from Core Facility Managers and administrative units.Define and document individual Core Facilities’ business processes, workflows, and data integrations to ensure interoperability with institutional systems.Configure, test, and validate system functionality to assess its performance and reliability.Develop dashboards, reports, and analytics to track Core Facility services utilization, billing, and performance metrics.Liaise with users, vendors, and IT teams to manage upgrades, troubleshoot issues, and ensure ongoing system performance.Deliver onboarding, training, and user documentation to promote system adoption and best practices.Research and implement new software modules and features such as Automated Usage Tracking, Publication Tracking, Mobile App functionality or reporting enhancements).Collaborate with Finance, HR, and IT to ensure accurate data exchange, security, and compliance with governance standards.Participate in meetings and working groups as needed.Monitor system usage, conduct user satisfaction surveys, and implement feedback-based enhancements.Prepare and maintain documentation on the system’s use, administration and maintenance.Perform other related projects and assignments in support of VPRI research systems as required.


Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

Experience working in research or academic environments. Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.Familiarity with McGill’s research administration workflows, financial systems is an asset.Familiarity with laboratory management software (e.g., Idea Elan Infinity X, Agilent iLab, Stratocore PPMS, BookItLab) is an asset.Project management experience is an asset.Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.
