**System Medical Director, Pathology Services** **| Remote within a Market**
The System Medical Director, Pathology Services, provides clinical leadership for pathology services across Bon Secours Mercy Health laboratories. This role ensures reliable quality patient outcomes and KPIs are standardized across laboratories, assures compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies, ensures standardization of technical procedures, and drives alignment of market pathology priorities with the organization’s mission and goals. The System Medical Director leads laboratory medical directors and collaborates with medical groups, including clinical and administrative leaders, to deliver integrated and patient-centered laboratory services.
**Essential Job Functions**
+ Develop and execute system-wide strategies for pathology services aligned with laboratory and organizational priorities.
+ Oversee pathology operations across multiple hospital-based and ambulatory laboratories to ensure efficiency, consistency, and service excellence.
+ Develop and standardize pathology productivity and performance metrics across the ministry.
+ Final approver in the review of the clinical relevance and efficacy of all pathology and laboratory testing.
+ Guide market medical directors in the development and review of quality assurance programs, including proficiency testing, peer review, and internal audits.
+ Stay abreast of evolving best practices, technologies, and regulatory requirements (e.g., CLIA, CAP, TJC, AABB, FDA, DNV).
+ Ensure all site medical directors are in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations governing laboratory operations.
+ Support Chief Laboratory Officer in the development of operating and capital budgets for pathology services across the system.
+ Participate in strategic discussions in the evaluation of new equipment.
+ Participate with the executive leadership team in driving cost-effective service delivery without compromising quality.
+ Review and assess pathology recruitment needs and support markets in the credentialing of pathologists.
+ Conduct performance evaluation of all market medical directors and provide input in the evaluation of site medical directors.
+ Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and professional growth by actively promoting and championing educational opportunities.
+ Serve as a key liaison between pathology, clinical departments, hospital leadership, and external partners.

**REQUIRED**
+ Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO)
+ Doctorate required (MD or DO degree) with board certification in Pathology (strongly preferred), or PhD in life or health sciences with certification in clinical/medical laboratory sciences or laboratory medicine.
+ Minimum of 5 years as a CLIA Lab Director
+ Accomplished and proven experience in regulatory compliance, quality improvement, and laboratory stewardship.
**PREFERRED**
+ Additional training or certification in healthcare administration (e.g., MBA, MHA, CPE)
+ Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in pathology and laboratory medicine in a multi-site or integrated healthcare system
**Working Conditions:**
Role may include hybrid work with travel to laboratory and clinical sites across the healthcare system (10%).
Frequent interaction with clinical, administrative, and executive leadership.

Long-distance or air travel as needed- not to exceed 10% travel.
General office environment.
May have periods of constant interruptions.
Required to car travel to off-site locations, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.
