STV is seeking a Survey Party Chief to join our Survey Group in the Atlanta, GA area. This role serves as the on-site leader of survey field crews, responsible for executing survey work accurately, safely, and efficiently in support of transportation, infrastructure, and land development projects.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who understands boundary law, construction staking, and modern survey equipment—and knows how to keep a crew productive, documentation clean, and deadlines met. Work Schedule Monday- Thursday 10-hour days with out-of-town work expected
Key Responsibilities
Serve as lead on a survey crew and direct daily field operationsPerform survey work as assigned by the Registered Professional Land Surveyor (RPLS) in an accurate, ethical, and timely mannerConduct ALTA/NSPS, boundary, topographic, and construction staking surveysOperate Trimble survey equipment including robotic total stations, GPS units, levels, and data collectorsUpload and download survey data between field equipment and office systemsCollect high-quality field data and maintain clear, accurate field notes, sketches, and documentationPerform basic field calculations necessary to complete survey tasksCommunicate daily with the Project Surveyor and/or Survey Technician regarding schedules, progress, and issuesPrepare daily reports, timesheets, and required project documentationMaintain survey equipment and assigned vehicle; ensure proper tools, supplies, and safety equipment are available each dayInteract professionally with clients, landowners, and project stakeholdersQualifications
1–3 years of experience performing ALTA, boundary, topographic, and construction staking surveysProficiency operating:Trimble Robotic Total StationsTrimble GPS equipmentLevels and data collectorsAbility to read and interpret plats, survey documents, and construction plansStrong leadership skills with the ability to direct and support field personnelProven work history, strong work ethic, and team-oriented mindsetAbility to problem-solve and adapt to field conditionsHigh School Diploma or GED requiredValid Driver’s License with a driving record that meets insurance requirementsAbility to pass drug screening and criminal background checkPhysical & Field Requirements
Ability to walk long distances over varied terrainAbility to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditionsWillingness to travel for out-of-town assignments as requiredPreferred Qualifications
