Position: Surgical Services Equipment Supply Tech.

Location: Lutheran General hospital; Park Ridge, IL.

Registry/PRN - scheduled on-call, as needed, to help fill in for departmental gaps and needs.

1st shift, when scheduled: 7am-3:30pm

Major Responsibilities:


Implements processes and procedures for supply/equipment evaluation and acquisition for Surgical Services.

Implements Surgical Services inventory systems including complete case cart process.Responsible for accurately entering SSI supply data and maintaining supply database.Assists in Surgical Services supply acquisition.Participates in supply/equipment evaluation process.Monitors OR schedules to assure adequate provision of supplies/implants, instruments, and equipment.Acts as a liaison to physicians and Surgical Services staff with sales representatives in supply/equipment acquisition and maintenance.Follows policies/procedures pertaining to supply/capital acquisitions and regulation of sales reps presence in restricted areas.


In collaboration with CPD staff, implements complete case cart processes, policies, and procedures.

Works in collaboration with CPD instrument coordinator to assure adequate inventory of supplies/instruments.In collaboration with Surgical Services staff, physicians, and CPD identifies Materials Management and case cart problems and issues.Identifies opportunities for improvement and assists in implementation of changes.In collaboration with CPD instrument coordinator, monitors case cart process and follows up on QA issues.Acts as a liaison between CPD and Surgical Services and a resource for the case cart system.


Participates in meeting cost reduction goals of LGH/Advocate.

Maintains inventory with minimal required levels.Notifies Materials management of all opportunities to decrease supply inventory.Recommends inventory to be deleted.Works in collaboration with Surgical Services Data Coordinator to assure accurate billing.Assists in cost containment analysis.Responsible for identifying opportunities for cost savings.


Works in collaboration with clinical coordinators, support staff, team leaders, surgical specialists, clinical managers, and physicians in providing Materials Management services.

Communicates in a positive and effective manner.Follows up on requested information in a timely manner.Acts as a resource in supply/equipment identification and location, acquisition, and status of orders.Assists in notifying Surgical Services staff and physicians of new products/equipment instruments.Monitors inventory to avoid waste and excess.


Utilizes guest relations techniques with members of the healthcare team and sales representatives.

Assists in coordinating all sales rep activities with Surgical Services.Maintains patient confidentiality.


Education/Experience Required:

High school diploma or equivalent. Two years experience in supply management


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

Basic PC skills. Ability to communicate, both verbal and written.


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Ability to work in fast-paced environment with time constraints. Ability to lift heavy objects (up to and over 50 lbs.) (heavy). Ability to meet flexible work hours.This requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 04/20/2014. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
