Position Support Staff/Signing Skills Coach Deaf Ed – Vision/Audiology Posting Posting Date January 29, 2026 Starting Date As soon as possible Application Due Date February 9, 2026 Reports to Building Principal and/or Director of Special Programs Duties + Work one-to-one assisting students with the skills necessary to successfully participate in the classroom. This includes but is not limited to the following: attending to instruction, supporting life-skills development, following classroom routines, and meeting behavioral expectations. + Act as a language model working to develop student’s expressive and receptive use of signed language. + Facilitate spoken and signed communication between the student and others during the school day. May require basic interpreting for students and staff when necessary. + Assist with classroom management by monitoring individual student behavior and implementing positive behavior management strategies supported by the program. + Assist in self-help, toileting and personal care activities, and mobility for students with disabilities. + Maintain diplomatic working relationships with teachers, parents, students, and other support personnel. + Perform other duties related to specific programs. + Read and respond to email communication daily. + Attend training sessions and scheduled Signing Skills Coach and Deaf Education staff meetings. + Other duties as assigned. Qualifications + High School Graduate: Associate Degree preferred. + Intermediate to advanced sign language skills + Basic interpreting skills. + Experience in support service programs with dead/hard of hearing or special education programs preferred. + Desire to work with students with disabilities. + Physically able to perform essential functions of the position (with or without reasonable accommodation). Evaluation Evaluation: The performance of this job will be evaluated annually by Building Principal and/or Director of Special Programs and in accordance with the Board of Education policy.
