Supply Trading Specialist - Propane

Position Summary The Propane Trading Specialist plays a key role in optimizing enterprise ‑ wide value across the propane supply chain, with a specific focus on optimization around MPLX frac and MPC refining locations. This role collaborates closely with ST&O, VCO, MPC Refining, MPLX, and other internal partners to evaluate market conditions, shape short ‑ term supply and sales plans, and execute strategies that maximize commercial value. Responsibilities include identifying and implementing value ‑ enhancing opportunities such as exchanges, term sales and purchases, freight optimization, yield adjustments, and import/export activity. The specialist also pursues business development opportunities beyond core trading—such as storage, blending, and rail, pipeline and truck freight deals—while building strong internal and external relationships with counterparties and commercial partners. This position prepares market intelligence reports, monitors supply/demand and competitive dynamics and ensures alignment across the value chain. In partnership with Credit, Legal, Accounting, and other support teams, the specialist helps ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, assists in contract preparation, addresses information queries, and contributes to the development of acquisition and sales strategies. The role additionally participates in negotiations and commercial resolutions involving disputes, claims, and other issues impacting the supply trading desk. Key Responsibilities + Collaborates across the value chain including ST&O, VCO, Refining, MPLX to continuously review market conditions and the short-term supply and sales plans; recommends and implements changes to the plan to optimize overall value to MPC (exchange and term sales or purchases, product yield shifts, freight optimization, sales channel shifts, import/export changes, etc.) + Evaluates and executes business development opportunities beyond the core business (storage, blending, freight deals) in collaboration with ST&O, VCO and other value chain partners + Builds and maintains internal and external relationships with counterparties and business partners. + Prepares periodic reports on market activities and supply/demand or competitive developments to support ST&O, VCO and other value chain partners + Collaborates with the value chain and various members of the extended business team (Credit, Legal, Accounting, etc.) to stay abreast of trading, logistical and financial activity, meet regulatory requirements, prepare contracts, address information queries, and develop acquisition/sales strategies to achieve optimum value. + Participates in the negotiation or development of commercial resolutions impacting supply trading desk (e.g., disputes, claims, etc.) Education and Experience Supply Trading Specialist + Bachelor’s Degree required. + Three (3) or more years of experience in trading or marketing including profit/loss responsibility for product trading, contract negotiation and scheduling (rail, truck, vessel and pipe). Senior Supply Trading Specialist + Bachelor’s Degree required + Five (5) or more years of experience in trading or marketing including profit/loss responsibility for product trading, contract negotiation and scheduling (rail, truck, vessel and pipe).
