The Pratt & Whitney Quality & Process Engineering (QPE) organization is seeking an energetic, self-starter to provide quality engineering support for the Global Supply Chain value stream as a Supplier Metallurgical Control Specialist (SMCS). The QPE group is responsible for the management, implementation and subsequent surveillance of several quality management systems within the global supply base including Laboratory Control at Source (LCS), Engineering Source Approval (ESA), special processes Source Qualification (SQ) and Supplier Authorizations (SA). Typical responsibilities include the following:

What You Will Do

Review and approve suppliers’ systems for chemical and metallurgical process control

Conduct product and process reviews/audits at a diverse population of suppliers

Review and approve suppliers’ metallurgical and chemical processes

Actively participate in any chemical metallurgical issues/investigations at suppliers that could impact P&W

Conduct training on P&W quality material control system requirements at suppliers

Participate in approval of engineering controlled processes for critical applications

Partner with other P&W business units towards improving supplier overall quality

Assist supplier with non-conformance documentation preparation and act as a resource/coach for related root cause corrective action investigations

Interface with all levels of employees at suppliers

Actively participate in continuous improvement activities

Participate on various team audits and manufacturing process reviews

Qualifications You Must Have

Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering, Metallurgy, or another relevant Engineering discipline

Working knowledge of supplier quality systems and quality assurance principles

Experience reviewing or auditing supplier processes and products

Understanding of raw material and finished product testing and control, ensuring compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage external suppliers

Ability to work independently in a field-based role and manage priorities effectively

Willingness and ability to travel at least 30%

Qualifications we prefer

Proficiency in all aspects of the LCS system

Testing and control of raw materials, finished product, and processing ensuring compliance with company standards and applicable government regulations

Knowledge of chemical/metallurgical processes, i.e., laser machining. electro-discharge machining, electro-chemical grinding, brazing, coatings, welding, heat treatment, forging, etc.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Additional Information
This position is field-based. There will be an initial training period of 6-12 months (depending on experience) under the direction of an experienced SMCS in the region. Because this position is field-based, the candidate must be self-directed and manage their own schedule to meet the business requirements.  This position requires a minimum of 30% travel.
