About the Opportunity 

This is an open position with Mon Power, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [MP]

There are current two (2) openings we are seeking to fill at the Fairmont location. 

This position supervises employees engaged in complex planning, scheduling, construction, maintenance, repair, testing and technical support of substation relay protection facilities and associated equipment including ensuring the compliance guidelines are followed. Area of responsibility also includes installation and maintenance of SCADA, power line relay communications, fiber communications and digital fault recorders.

Responsibilities include:

Demonstrating and directing a solid commitment to all aspects of safety Monitoring work practices for potential hazards Directing and supervising employees engaged in the construction, operation, and maintenance of substation facilities and associated equipment Estimating man-hours and costs for controls projects and monitor projects to ensure that resources and expenditures are utilized effectively Supervising resources during emergency conditions to support public safety and system reliability, as well as supervising and dispatching service restoration crews during major storms Administering labor contract in a fair and professional manner Monitoring the activities of employees and enforcing established work practices and methods (Safety, Accident Prevention, Preferred Practices and Methods, Manual and Construction Standards) Requesting and coordinating the availability of necessary equipment, tools, materials and supplies Coordinating work with other departments and scheduling construction, maintenance, repair or test work Demonstrating sound internal and external customer service Counseling employees, recommending corrective actions required to meet performance standards and acknowledging good work, as well as good work habits Implementing instruction and training controls employees in the established work practices and methods utilized throughout the department to increase efficiency and effectiveness Administering company and regional programs related to Safety and Absenteeism Management Scheduling, reviewing and completing all BES related relay maintenance and scheme testing Verifying completion of testing documentation for NERC and PA Regulatory agency maintenance testing compliance Overseeing and offering technical support for the installation and maintenance of substation network communications between SCADA, protection relays, DFR’s and other intelligent electronic devices Managing the installation, testing, and maintenance of relaying communications packages between substations and supporting end to end commissioning of relay protection schemes Leading investigations and assisting engineering into system relay mis-operations

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with 3 years of relevant experience preferred, in lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an Associate’s degree in electrical field with 7 years of relevant experience preferred. Strong computer skills and effective oral and written communication skills Prefer advanced experience in protective relay, SCADA, power line carrier, and fault disturbance equipment maintenance and testing Knowledge of Clearance and Switching Control Procedures, Construction Standards and Preferred Practices for Substation work Ability to identify relay and equipment outage requirements as they apply to maintenance and construction activities Ability to learn various computer mainframe applications commensurate to the substation controls maintenance operation including, WMI applications, CREWS, SAP, CASCADE, Microsoft Access, Enoserv RTS, AcSELerator, and multiple relay communication interfaces Ability to read, alter and communicate complex prints and specifications to personnel Prefer experience in a union environment with the ability to manage under the provisions of a union contract, and apply all provisions without preference Effective leadership skills to communicate with and direct work of others to ensure safety and produce satisfactory work results Advanced knowledge in elements of applied electricity including AC and DC circuits Demonstrate a questioning attitude to learn, produce results and develop relationships Ability to coach, mentor, engage and inspire people to excel in their roles Advanced knowledge of practices, principles of operation and the proper application of safety equipment, first aid and rescue Set and communicate clear expectations, priorities and measures of success
