Supervisor, Respiratory Care and Sleep Lab

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of the Clinic Manager, the Respiratory Care/Sleep Lab Supervisor will direct and coordinate the clinical activities and day-to-day operations of Respiratory Care and Sleep Lab. The Respiratory Care/Sleep Lab Supervisor assures that department goals and activities align with Broadlawns Medical Center’s mission, vision, values, and strategic plan.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Coordinates day-to-day operations of Respiratory Care and Sleep Lab services, in accordance with practice standards and standards established by institutional, governmental, and other regulatory bodies.

2. Facilitates departmental communications to internal and external parties managing the flow of information into and out of the department.

3. Establishes service goals, identifies problems impacting quality of service, and recommends service and process improvement initiatives utilizing cost-effective solutions and enhancements.

4. Manages, schedules, orients, and evaluates personnel within department and ensures staff is actively engaged in work on a consistent basis.

5. Ensures staff orientation, annual training, and performance reviews are completed within required timelines.

6. Develops and recommends policies and procedures related to clinical practice that are based on evidence,

professional practice guidelines, and regulatory requirements.

7. Maintains a clean and safe environment, orders adequate supplies and ensures trouble-free equipment with an emphasis on equipment standardization throughout the Respiratory Care and Sleep Lab areas as well as facility wide.

8. Ensures and maintains current, accurate, and complete records regarding staff licensure and credentials.

9. Develops and implements quality improvement plans in compliance with all regulatory agencies (i.e.: DNV,

AASM, CAP, OSHA).

10. Collaborates with Pathology Lab leadership in activities related to the ABG Lab equipment and functions.

11. Prepares and maintains routine department records, statistics, and special reports.

12. Actively participates in the development of the respiratory therapy and sleep clinic fiscal year

budget.

13. Ensures operations run within budgetary guidelines and monitors respiratory therapy and sleep lab expenses and

purchases.

14. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

1. Demonstrates teamwork and cooperative, responsive behaviors setting an example for the department to follow.

2. Completes and maintains annual unit specific competencies and all annual hospital wide mandatory training within defined time frame.

3. Ability to effectively utilize Microsoft Office programs and other hospital department related software programs.

4. Responsible for the development of and compliance with Performance Improvement activities within the department.

5. Facilitates or actively participates in Respiratory Care and Sleep Lab Services meetings and projects to develop strategies for continuous quality improvement.

6. Monitors department to ensure economical utilization of supplies, time, and resources.

7. Monitors personnel productivity and demonstrates clear expectations of accountability based on individual job descriptions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. A Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with standards maintained, as recognized by the Iowa Department of Public Health.

2. Valid Iowa license to practice.

3. Three years respiratory therapist experience in a hospital environment.

4. Bachelor’s degree or completion of a bachelor's degree program within 3 years of hire.

5. Consistently demonstrates a team approach to care.

6. Demonstrates excellent communication skills.

7. Experience working with Microsoft Office programs.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Previous leadership experience.

2. Bilingual.

3. Experience with Meditech.
